Rifle Scopes NF reticle

Re: NF reticle

NP-R2 is designed for lower magnification scopes (like the 2.5-10) where a more granular reticle would all blur together. However it is difficult to use such large subtensions as a practical matter. If you're getting a 2.5-10 then the NP-R2 is your only choice. Otherwise get the NP-R1 as it is a much more useful reticle.

Re: NF reticle

NP R1 would be my choice for a MOA based reticle from NF. The 2 MOA windage marks are far more useful than the 5 MOA on the NP R2.

Re: NF reticle

Don't waste your time and money on MOA, go all Mils, I just converted and wished I'd listened to Rob01 and the rest of them from the start, MLR and MilRad knobs makes life so much easier.

Does Nightforce offer Mil-Rad without Zero Stop? Anyone know? Haven't had any luck hearing back from several vendors and Nightforce themselves.

If you scroll down a bit you will see it.

Re: NF reticle

mils are another language to me. I've always shot minutes. I'm sure there's some advantage to mils in certain situations, but I'm not starting over. The math seems simpler with minutes.

The important part is that the knobs match the reticle. I will never understand what is "easier" about mil/mil, it is all preference. Not saying that moa/moa is "easier" either. Both work well. The only real difference I see is moa knobs have finer clicks, in other words .1 mil gives you more angle than 1/4 moa.

The math, whether you are ranging a target or calculating for adjusted elevation it is pretty much the same, just different equations. I personally use NF ballistics calculator and a range finder, that is what makes life easy.

Re: NF reticle

I like the NP-R1. I shoot some local matches and I hunt with the same rifles. When I am shooting matches I use the scope at 22x and when I am hunting I set the power at 11x. Set at 11x I get wider field of view and can use the reticle as NP-R2 with 2 moa elevation hash marks. If I have time I can always dial up to 22x if need be.
The thing that drove me away from the NP-R2 was the 5 moa windage hash marks. I like to hold off for windage and the 5 moa marks were just a little to coarse for my liking.
