Rifle Scopes NF Scope questions

Just got my 5.5x22x50 NF scope. A few questions for you guys. First off, I want to put a lens protector on the objective lens of my scope. Does anyone know the thread size on a NF 50mm scope?
Also, on the power selective ring. When I turn it all the way to 22x, the last hash mark on the scope body does not match up with the hash mark on the power selective ring. There is about a 1/8" difference. Is this normal, or something I should be concerned about and call NF up?

1/8" seems a little much. I checked mine and it is almost exact. I checked to see what caps to use but only found the package for the first set I bought that didnt fit. I know is not 47 obj, and I know for the eye piece its not a 1.605 or 40.8mm.

BC Caps = #18 eye #43 Objective.

I just ordered my first NF .. but from what I hear they are pretty precise ... I would call NF ..

My 5.5 goes about a 32nd past 8.5/32 is right on and the 12/42 goes about the same as what you stated. I have had no problems with any of them.

Just checked my 5.5-22X50 and like the others it stopped on the mark dead on. I would call NF as well.

Mine goes a little past the mark as well. I don't have it handy but is probably close to 1/8.

Thanks on the sizes^^^.. nice info to know.

I checked all my NF's, and all of them showed a 1/32" or 1/16"th either at the low or high setting. Always beyond the hash, never short of it.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. Issues with the Droid..
Anyways, here is a picture of hash marks. Like I said, Im not sure if this is an issue or not. I figured for a $1700 scope they could have painted the white lines evenly LOL.. Anyways,

Thats going to blow if it has to go back to NF.. What the heck is their "passed inspection" sticker for that they placed on the scope if the inspector missed this?
I bought the Hollands level based on what I read on the Hide. For one, the liquid is ALOT brighter than the other ones I have seen.. We will see how well it works out for me when everything is put together..

Ill call them tomorrow.. BTW, does anyone know where I can get a 50mm night force lens protector? I know Leupold makes a "kit" where there are like 4 different colored lens. Im looking for the clear one to protect my objective lens.

As long as it focuses well I would not send it back for that. I sounded worse in you desciption. If I were looking at buying a scope I dont think that would bother me.

What you have described, and shown in the pic, is normal. What you need to know is whether your reticle subtends properly against the hard stop. Optically check your scope, and mark the half-power point while you're at it.

I put a call into NF today, and "Mark" just called me back. He said the "hash" marks being a little of is just the nature of the beast when man puts things together. There is nothing wrong in that aspect. My magnification will not be more or less than 22x.
So I told him my next issue that I took the clutch assembly apart by accident (unscrewed the 4 screws all the way), and put it back together. By doing this, I was separating the upper half (where the 4 screws are) from the lower half disc that has about 8-10 holes where the (4) screws screw in to. He said that I shouldnt have done that. He said that the lower half and upper half are "timed" at the factory. He said it would take an act of god to get it back together properly, but could not tell me what problems I would need to look for if it is not put back properly. Does anyone know? I would hate to send it to NF, and not get it back for 6 weeks..

I hear you ... the way I look at equipment is that I need to be 100% sure that it will perform. I would hate the feeling that when I am shooting ... and something does not go right -- that little voice in the back of your mind that points to that possiblity. That would drive me crazy.

The midway reviews are not very positive on the U.S. optics bubble level. It is a very simple device so to have any poor reviews on worksmanship probably isn't a good thing. Especially when there are so many options out there. If a $2 level from home depot can be consistent I would expect a $90 piece of equipment to do the same. Not bashing U.S. optics because I have some several of their products and they work great but, their bubble level needs to be redesigned to provide a more consistent reading.

I recently purchased an anti-cant bubble from Midway, the type that goes on the scope body where the bubble is on top of the scope, behind the mag ring. You can't see it without lifting your head completely away from the scope.

I replaced it a week ago with the fold-out bubble level from US Optics. FWIW, the US Optics fold-out is PERFECT. No need to move your head at all, just look at the bubble with your left eye, no problem. Workmanship is outstanding and the people at USO were great to work with, and the level arrived promptly within a couple of days. All in all, a very nice piece of work!

My two NFs look the same in regards to the 22 marking. While they were back for turret upgrades, they told me seven weeks and I'll have them back Tuesday (3 1/2 weeks)

Sounds to me like you arent very keen on reading directions in which NF SPECIFICALLY states NOT to remove the clutch assembly. Its your own fault you gotta send it back so while you're waiting.......go ahead and order those lens covers and READ the manual this time....not to sound liek a dick or anything

Oh yea......the has marks on mine line up perfectly on 22x

I DONT want a butler creek cap on there. ::cough cough:: Leupold makes a lens protector for their MK4 scopes that screw into the end of the scope. The protector is actually made of glass. Does anyone know if there is such a product for the NF 50mm scope? Im wondering if the Leupold one will work on NF..

New photographers often want to buy a filter to put in front of their lens(es) for protection, figuring that they'd rather scratch a cheap filter than an expensive lens element. The problem with this is multi-faceted:
<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*]putting an extra piece of glass between your eye and the target will degrade optical quality[*]to minimize this effect, you need an expensive piece of glass for a filter[*]now you've got an expensive piece of glass way out front where it is susceptible to scratches[*]if that glass receives an impact sharp enough to break it, it'll <span style="font-style: italic">really</span> scratch the lens you were trying to protect[/list]
For me, it's far more practical to use a lens hood (basically a sunshade) and insure my optical gear via a personal articles policy, which covers a lot more than just scratching the thing.

I would like a set of covers for my 3.5-15x50 as well. Wondering if anyone knew of a rear cover that would be able to rotate since NF has the euro style mag adjustment? So that while turning through mag it would be possible to turn cover to a desired/out of the way location!

I never Thought about it that way. How much does it degrade the scope lens? Is this something that you will actually see a difference in whether you have a glass filter or not?
