Bought NFA items individually a while back. Recently formed NFA Trust and put wife and grown sons on it as trustees. After 5 months 14 days got forms 4's back transferring NFA items from me as an individual to my NFA Trust.

As an individual I carried a reduced copy of for tax stamp with NFA items when they were not locked in safe. The tax stamp shows "ME" as legel owner, no problems with proper identification.

HERE IS THE QUESTION?? and I did seach here for answered, but did not find it.

Now that the items are owned by the Trust, what is required to be in possession of the NFA items to prove "Trustee" status?

Are we to carry a complete copy of the entire Trust to be in possesoin of the NFA items, as well as copies of the tax stamps?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I just carry the reduced copies. The trust name is my last name. They have my name and address on them that matches my ID. My wife would be OK since the address is the same as her ID, not that she ever takes them anywhere.

From what I understand, you are only required to carry the tax stamp. Now if a trustee gets questioned and the last name and addresses don't match, depending on the LEO, they can and may detain you and or the item till they verify the information. To be safe, I'd make a couple copies of the trust and just give the none family trustees a copy. There is no point in taking a chance.

I'm not sure that there is any requirement to prove to an officer your status as a trustee. The question is whether the NFA item is lawfully possessed, and you having a copy of the tax stamp and telling them that you are the trustee should be prima facie proof of that.

Thanks for your answers.

Graham, I agree with your answer in part, but the "should be" worries me. I also am not willing to subject any of my family members to any unnecessary risks

Since the Trust does not include our family name, I thought it best to give each trustee a complete copy of the trust, as well as a copy of the tax stamp. I am confident that this should be all that is necessary to prove the NFA items are in "legal possession", AT ALL TIMES!

Any other thoughts on the question are welcomed, pariticularly from those in a similar situation.

Thanks again.
