Pretty tough to find a nice LH 22 LR. And not break the bank. I found a nice Remington 581 so I bought it for a porch rifle. When I received it I was pleasantly surprised. It could pass for brand new. Not a single scratch on the rifle. Not bad for a rifle that is probably over 40 years old?? I am happy with it. Tom.

Re: Nice 581---Pictures

I had another one about 20 years ago. And it was a pretty good shooter. But I let a friendtalk me out of it. So when a fellow told me he had this one I thougght I should buy it. Now after seeing the condition I am glad I did. I thought $320 to my door was a bit high, but now I think it was worth it. After all what other LH 22(inexpensive) can you buy besides a Savage. Tom.

Re: Nice 581---Pictures

I picked up a right handed 581 at a gun show several years ago in similar condition.

I won a bet for a free steak dinner with it shooting with a buddy at the range the weekend I bought it.

That made it worth every penny.

Very clean 581! I have a LH 581 that I picked up over 25 years ago for $100. The stock was cut down, it must have been for someone's kid. I added a 1" recoil pad just to get the LOP usable for me.Last year I found an unmolested LH 581 stock at a gunshow for $20. I keep the rifle around for backyard critters using CB longs.

Re: Nice 581---Pictures

Cam did you get rid of the cut down stock?? I have got a LH youngin coming along. If you want to sell the cut down stock I would be interested for a decent price. I was going to restock this rifle, and cut the current stock down for the youngin. However the current stock is in pretty good shape. I hate to cut it down if I do not have to. Tom.

HOGGHEAD,
Don't cut that stock! Let me look through the garage for the old stock, I'm sure I still have it. I don't throw anything away!

Re: Nice 581---Pictures

I have 2 LH 581's hanging on the wall that I'd be willing to part with for a fair price. They are set up as single shots so you'd have to find the magazine parts (if you do tell me where as I have a RH one in need)

Cheers,

Doc
