Are you talking about a box test? If so, my Leupold Mark IV has no problem coming back to the original shot. Any good quality scope should be able to do that without trouble. If it doesn't then the scope is SNAFU. You may want to have the manufacturer check it. Having said that, I also own two Nightforce 5.5-22x56. And compare that with the Leupold Mark IV, I must say that the Nightforce is clearer without a doubt. When a person buys a scope is it more than just looking into the glass and say it's clear. There are other features that you may want and not offer by that particular scope. The older Nightforce scopes are SFP as oppose to the Leupold Mk IV is FFP. That's just one example. But bottom line is

+1, I dont know why a lot of people bash the Leupold brand so much. I have two Leupold Mark 4's that never failed me yet on my .308's and both passed the box test. I also used both to shhot at 550 yds and both scopes worked fine and rechecked my 100 yd zero with no problems. Plus Leupold gives us military folks a good price. I have only looked through one NF before and it was their benchrest model and I could not tell the difference, not enough experience? maybe, also the mirage was pretty bad that day.
On another note, see if you can test both before you buy one to see which one you like better.
