I would be almost as concerned about needing "45.5 up" to get to 1K as I was about the return to zero problem.

FYI- I have never had a tracking/return to zero problem with a Mark 4 (or a NF for that matter). Lucky I guess.

Leupold is the most liberal I have ever seen with their repairs. Barrett thinks Leupold is good to go on their 50 cals because Barrett made their BORS device for the Leupold specifically and now also I think NF. But after reading many posts on Barrett's discussion group website, it is obvious that many Leupolds have prematurely had to go back to Leupold after being shot on a 50 cal. I bought a Leupold to go on the M82, but after reading up, the Barrett now wears a NF. Many rounds later on the M82, the NF is no muss, no fuss, no slip...just blang away and fuggedaboutit. My only scope concern with the NF on the Barrett are scope head pops. Talk about putting a unibrow on you...those scope cuts are something to fear. If anyone wants to test your Leupold out, send it to me and I will give it the 50 cal "proof test" hopefully with no scope cut blood on it.

I'm not interested in paying a $1000+ for a scope where everyone can tell you how good their warranty service is.... Just get a Nightforce and you won't ever find out about their warranty service

The only way Leupold is comparable to Nightforce has been in their recent pricing structure. The NXS, and I've owned the BR as well, is far ahead of any variable ever made in Beaverton. Look at the Nightforce hard...fwiw

BullShit Scooter-Pie. Years back a buddy and I are hitting some steel targets at 600 yds on a hot sunny afternoon so I screw on the NF's sunshade (5.5-22). Then after dinner we decide to light up the same targets with a lamp and do some twilight shooting. So when I'm in position I realize the sunshade is still on so I begin to unscrew it in the dark. Well when it came off so did the objective lens. "This sucks I thought". But I felt better because the night was'nt ruined. I just pulled out my other rifle with a Mark 4 6.5-20. It's good to own scopes with companys with good warranties. And personally, while I think the NF is a little nicer, I know I can win with either.

They are still assembled in Beaverton, however, they don't contain enough US parts to be labled "Made in USA". Oddly enough the Nightforce NXS Compacts and New 3.5-15x50 F1 do...fwiw

nf's are rugged man mines been taking a beating on top of my 7mm rm for two years now without so much as a single scuff on the tube. the leupold i bought just last year had to be sent back not once but TWICE because it was bumped around and had a lense crack followed very closely by the crosshairs fallinf out of sight.

Here are my sendero rifles that take the abuse riding in the ranch truck. Driving down the bumpy senderos occassional banging and slippage never bothered these NFs. I don't know how their warranty is, never used it. Yes, I have used the Leupold's warranty in the past. I have to admit I got a new scope replacement for the one mounted on one rifle that slipped from the tool box on to the truck bed. The hunt was over for that rifle that weekend.

My target guns also wear NF.

Most Nightforce scopes are assembled in the US from foreign parts. Maybe rolls are starting to reverse in that aspect but Leupold has still made more scopes in the US than Nightforce.

I own one Nightforce and want to get a Mark4 for my MK12 MOD0 rifle that I just put together. I have a buddy that has both NF and Leupolds and he says they are both good brands. Granted every now and then you may get a lemon, but that happens with everything from microwaves to cars. Hell he even says his Marine buddy swears by the Mark4 since he has used them extensively in combat.
Surpising if you search around various forums, every forum has their own "nitch" optic they love.

I think I am going to get a Leopold for myself. I found one for about $300 cheaper than the NF, so at least that will save me a little money.

Thanks for the info. I just sold one of my MK4's to save up and fund a NF or maybe a Sightron SIII. Did you have to pay extra for the moa/moa or mil/mil option? Thanks again and sorry for the hi-jack OP.

That is your perogative and personal choice. I am very interested into what is failing on your friends Nightforce NXSs? I ask because I've found them to be an extremely solid scope, using the BR since 97', and a step ahead of any variable Leupold has ever made. They still have their issues including illumination design and the rheostat on the NXSs, however, they've been making a better product in the LR arena than anything made in Beaverton. Who largely lost their competitive edge when Dick Thomas, may God rest his soul, passed away.

Japanese companies are producing some of the finest optical assemblies ever made. You have to look no further than Deon Optical to note the trend. I am associated with Schmidt Bender, however, to ignore the competition is to be done at your peril. That said I love to see an American Company make the best product in the world. Surefire, John Deere, along with a few others come to mind. That said I buy quality and not where it was made. It may be made in England, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, or The United States of America. I prefer to see the latter but have no qualms about money spent with the former countries/companies. I applaud and support excellence wherever it may be found...fwiw & imho.

Concur. Or when you buy two Leupolds and neither is collimated properly. Feels as if your eye is being sucked out of your head. That said those two scopes came through their custom shop...

One of two previously mentioned FX-III 6x42s with M1 turret...

If you are getting "Made in USA" on your Leupolds you are likely getting older stock. I bought nine of them in 06' and none of them were so marked...

Seven of the scopes. Remaining two were the dicked up 6x42s...

Identical scopes bought 12 months apart. 4.5-14x40 Long Ranges...
Boxes, tags, and bottom of scope changed from "MADE IN USA" to "Lifetime Guarenteed"

At the time I received the first seven I was pissed at the change. Especially as Leupold said dick about it. I then came to realize it was a move toward truth in advertising or more accurately truth by omission.

Buy German...(grin)

Very well written, I can not chime in on either scopes quality/design, ive looked through Mark 4's and they looked very clear! Never seen a NF in my life, but have heard nothing but good things! However buy a scope for the quality, not where its made!

if you want to help the country...dont worry about where your scope is made, BUY DODGE's and FORD's...or chevy as long as its a vette(perferably a z06 hah)
