Night Vision Night Vision Questions

Re: Night Vision Questions

In my opinion order preference will go

First and foremost zone 1 and 2 clarity,

Next

SNR
Photocathode sensitivity
Luminanase gain

Those are the three things I would consider while makIng a purchase decison. This is assuming apples to apples or within the the same brand and model. The best in clip-on NV is the CNVD-LR because of it's clarity first and it's myraid other atributes.

Re: Night Vision Questions

And if you want to know more then call Hunter at Mod Armory. You will get an honest unbiased answer, and outstanding custoner service. And that comes from someone who has purchased from multiple vendors here. And I am an end user both CONUS and OCONUS.

Get the sheet and then ask questions on what you do not understand. I am with you-cannot figure all that stuff out, so then I call and ask.

Re: Night Vision Questions

Data sheets do have numbers and do help sales, But I know some are better with Lower numbers in my hands, not always the case. CNVD-LR will all have plenty of performance with minimum specs so any are fine honestly.. Trust your sales guy and all will be fine .. You can trust most all the dealers on here..It's not one sided like ar15.com we are a ban of the banned around here ..LOL..

Re: Night Vision Questions

We feel no matter how good specs are of a tube, the day scope plays just as an important role.

Case in point approx. 6 months ago a Hide customer purchased a CNVD-LR with high S/N, PR etc. and I get a phone call "Vic I cannot see much of anything at 100 yards." Going through the usual suspects of what to check (including shooting in a cave (;-) and I finally ask what day scope he was using? He mentioned "a old Leupy vari-x from 14 years ago."

Next day he put his Zeiss on and a whole new world appeared in the dark. :)

We see many folks who forget that their actual day scope no matter what the tube specs are won't do diddly with a low light gathering, cheap glass unit to begin with. Hope this helps.

That all we basically run as well and most all S&B GTG! We also run a new Leupy 34mm Mil version glass on our new XM-2010 issue build.

US Optics and also Knightforce gather a heck of a lot of light out there and do extremely well with clip-ons.

Keep in mind though, even with high-end day optics keeping the objective lens at 40mm or larger will pay dividends in the light gathering ability at 6x or better. I have a 30mm Knightforce which brings in a good amount of light, but can also suffer in a hurry at upper ranges of magnifications when used with a high-end clip-on.
