I was wondering what brand of ppc/ pda you guys are using. I need something that will stay charged and will work outside. The only thing i plan on using it for is the nightforce program. I seen the ppc recon, but dam $1000 for it seems high. Any info or experiences be appriecated, thanks.......

You can get it from alot of places ... I have compared it to my balistic calculator ... it is is spot-on even out to 1000 yds. </div></div>

We used something like that when I was in the Army except it was a plastic wheel and you would rotate the wheel for different conditions, I want to say it was made in England but not a 100% on that. It was pretty useful tool, and like you are saying it didn't require any batteries.

I've been using the JBM Ballistic FTE. I purchased it on itunes

but that doesn't mean it won't perform. As far as i've seen all exterior ballistic software use the same calculations. Some might offer different things, but they are all relative. Especially in relation to nightforce's ballistic program. Also knights armament have there software at itunes as well, but jbm has a larger bullet database. If you want to go as far as internal and external ballistics, I'd recommend RSI shooting lab. That software is awesome. Hope this helps!

Fieldman,

I have been on a Quest for the last few weeks looking at Ballistic programs. This is what I have found, on distances of 5oo yards and less all the programs seem to behave the same way and will give you almost identical readings dependant on the options (i.e. spin drift, Coriolis effect)chosen. However, after that distance, as you get out to 800ys and beyond you start to see the differences and variations in the algorithm. My math skills are not that advanced. Each program has diferent included functions , certain ones allow you to hook up a GPS for position, and/or a Kestrel saving you time putting that data in. Some even calculate deflection. Loadbase 3.0 has loading data included and is updated often.

Just thought you would be interested.

Re: Nightforce ballistic program devices

Thanks for the info man, and not to take over this thread, but i too was noticing that the accuracy was really close but deviated among a lot of exterior ballistic software out to and around 500 yrds. However, like anything else any software is as good as the information you give it and as I figured out more accurate information I was able to extend that to 1000 yrds. Not to sound stupid, but I had to look up definitions on a lot of the setpoints just to get them right, but as I did I found the software to be more accurate. Yes this software is "cheap" but I found it has me shooting steel targets out to 1000 yrds. And again, the RSI shooting lab software is to the extreme on accuracy. Unfortunetly I don't think they have a pda version, anyone know? But yes, i have found deviations in software calculations between a few(JBM Ballistics, Ballistics, Bulletflight, and RSI shooting lab) but smaller when given accurate information.
