I'm going to upgrade my NXS MLR to an F1. In the past the popular vote has been the MLR is to fine for a FFP scope, and that the MD is the better choice when choosing the F1. With the generation two reticules is this still the popular vote? Or are people finding the MLR2.0 handles the lower powers better?

Also, since were on the topic, is there also a MD2.0 where the full reticle lights up? Or was this change only done to the MLR2?

The 2nd Generation of F1 reticles was made so that it was optimized through out the power range. On the MLR2.0 and MD2.0 the entire smart portion of the reticle illuminates.

IMO, the MD2.0 offers better measured spacing which allows you to Mill a little finer than the MLR2. But both are excellent choices. It really comes down to your preference of lines or dots and your proficiency.

Re: Nightforce F1- MilDot Reticle still the best choic

I prefer the MLR2 reticle, I haven't used the MD2 in the F1 but this is what I like about the MLR2.

- As 00bullitt mentioned the MLR2 reticle is very useable down to the lower magnification settings. Before with my standard MLR equipped F1, 8X was about the cut off for me before the details in the reticle started to get too small. With the MLR2 I can go down to 5X or so and still be perfectly fine using it for hold off, hold over, etc.

- I like how the MLR2's ranging stadia are now longer compared to the MLR reticle and with the .2 mil spacing breaking it down into fine increments is no issue. I've been able to get down to about .05 mil when using the reticle to range with during compeition.

- I also like how the MLR2 extends down to 10 mils as opposed to just five mils with the standard MLR2 reticle. This increases the amount of holder a shooter has beyond the ability to dial for elevation. Additionally a shooter can just decide to zero for 100 yards and then simply hold over until they run out of reticle...it's not ideal but it's an option.

- When it comes to the illumination I'm in different when it comes to illuminating the just the center or the whole reticle. I personally like having just the center portion illuminated but it's a preference thing.

I will say that since I bought my latest F1 with high speed zero stop turrets and MLR2 reticle I'm quite happy with the combination. I would say that the only way to make the F1 better would be to somehow adapt the windage limiter that's on the compact scopes to the full size NXS scopes.

+ 1 fr the MLR 2.0

To me if you are ever going to hold over more than five mils the MLR 2.0 is the choice. I also prefered center only illumknation, but after using the MLR 2.0 and MLR 2 side by side it really does not make any difference to me. The improvements in the MLR2.0 make it a clear winner In my opinion. I do have to say the MD2 looks very nice as well! Neither are a bad option.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Not many MD2 users though!

All the positive feedback on this optic is making me more excited. This optic offers everything I could ask for, and although expensive, it isn't unattainable.

In my opinion, you do not hear much about the MD2 because when NF released the MD2 flyer it looked like dog crap. I think they did a diservice to the reticle right off the bat.

Now that there are a couple through the scope pics of the reticle it looks really good.
If i did not on occasionally use over 5 mils of holdovers I think MD2 would be in my scope.

Re: Nightforce F1- MilDot Reticle still the best choic

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear that both reticles are adequate for FFP zoom ranges. Nightforce confirmed the MD2 was revised like the MLR2 and is now fully illuminated. So in the end it became a decision of personal preference.

... and it was actually a hard decision, but I decided to go with the MD2. All things equal, I prefer a simple reticle.

Re: Nightforce F1- MilDot Reticle still the best choic

I just mounted up my F1 with the MLR 2.0 reticle. Usable down low in the mag range and better executed than the MLR2, especially in the illumination. Get it. You won't be disappointed.

Can't speak for the rest, but I don't like the Horus. I'm firmly on the too busy side. I like simple reticles that offer a clear field of view and I don't mind dialing.
