Rifle Scopes Nightforce nightmares

Everything thing was fine with the other gun it was mounted on and wouldn't pattern .when we removed the nxs and replaced with the Shv it shot perfect........

Because possibly when the SHV was installed, torque issues were worked out. Are you 100% without a doubt certain the original install was perfect?

So back at it. New bases and rings for my 30/378 steel 1 piece nightforce base 4 screw nightforce rings with rear leveler everything torques to nightforce spec mounting bolts from actuon to stock torqued 65. Bore sighted the gun with Weatherby ammunition 180g accubonds. First shot after bore 3 " left made appropriate correction started shootin less then 1/2" groups programmed G7 and hit everything out to 650. Returned scope worked as one would expect a nightforce too. So only conclusion I could believe after the problems with it on my 338/378 was that nightforce fixed or replaced the scope and just didn't want to cop to one of there scopes having an issue.

Or...the new base and rings fixed the issue, which is far more likely than NF trying to give you the runaround.

I’m not saying what I said to be an ass.

What I’m getting at is for one reason or another I’ve began to mount a scope and got busy with something else and forgot to torque. I get back to the rifle, and there it sits next to 10 others and without a second thought, put it away.

A month later I say “I wanna shoot that rifle”. End up and the range and my groups are all over the place and sometimes it takes a while to figure out I forgot to torque.

Sometimes it just ends up being vertical stringing. Which would happen if a Scope was moving back and forth.

You previously stated the new bases were on the 30/378. When you put the returned scope on, it functioned fine. Therefore, you can’t rule out the rings/bases/torque values resolving the problem.

When you put the different scope on the 338, you tightened the rings down, which could have resolved the “issue” with that ring/base combo.

..possibly but I checked all the torque values on the rings and the crossbolts prior to removing the scope and as I removed the scope I took it down to the bases and checked the torque all fine and furthermore for that POA to move after each shot 1"-1 1/2" until it was off the target at 100yds there would be some serious movement of the hole package no marks on the scope at all . I give up I do believe it was the scope just saying not knocking NF - I put another on the gun.

The optic was moving. I’ve had optics move under heavy recoil even in Spuhr unimounts with everything torqued and thread locked. It happens. Some rosin in the rings works wonders.

I’ve had enough interaction with NF cs to know that they aren’t going to bullshit you.
