I'm changing out my NF MLR Reticle to the NP-R1. I have decided to do this because I have the 12-42 NXS and it is a bit limited in elevation at 1000 yards on cold days. I think the MOA reticle will make life easier for holdovers without alot of mental math I have with the MLR.

What do you folks think of the NP-R1?

Re: Nightforce NP-R1 Reticle?

For an MOA reticle, I think it's one of the best. I had it in both a 3.5-15x50 and a couple of 5.5-22x56 scopes. Hope your current NF has MOA turrets to make it a match.

Re: Nightforce NP-R1 Reticle?

Have two npr1 5-22 and really like them. In the 3-15 The npr1 was too fine my needs(this was not an issue in the 5-22).It would work great in 12-42. I think my next one might be an 8-32 npr1, if they put hispeed zero stop on them

Re: Nightforce NP-R1 Reticle?

recently moved from mildot to np-r1. only slight criticism is the lines are so thin that when shooting at black targets they can be a bit hard to pick out but it isn't really a drama.

Yes, I have the MOA turrets. The new reticle will be a nice match.

Re: Nightforce NP-R1 Reticle?

The biggest criticism that I've heard of the NP-R1 is that it is too "busy" and some say that they prefer the NP-R2 for this reason. When I compared the R1 to the R2, I also opted for the R2. Of course, I don't shoot past 600 yards and I'm running a canted base so elevation isn't a problem.

5-22x50 don't get me wrong, i love it but thats just an observation from a dark afternoon at the range when it wasn't quite dark enough for the illumination

Re: Nightforce NP-R1 Reticle?

I opt for the R1 in my 5.5x22's and my 8x32's but will most likly get the R2 in the 3.5x15 that I plan to buy next. It has 20 MOA on all but the 3.5x15 which has 30MOA in the reticle I believe. If you will be ranging with it I would get the NP-R1 but if not the NP-R2 should do just fine. It will offer 2MOA verticaly and 5 MOA windage in the reticle while the NP-R1 has 1MOA elevation and 2 MOA windage. Good luck

According to Lowlight's recent post about releases for NF at SHOT, they will be coming out with a 8-32 model with hi-speed turrets and ZS.

Get the NP-R1. It is my favorite reticle.

Re: Nightforce NP-R1 Reticle?

Love my NPR1- much prefer it to mildot.
