Hey all (first post WOOT!).

I recently purchased a Nightforce NXS 1-4x24 with ZeroStop and NP-1 reticle. My plan was to save up this summer and get an AR-10T to mount it on, but upon further research I believe I may want to get something with greater magnification.

While there aren't many long distance ranges in Maryland, I was hoping to get into long range target shooting at some point in the future. Given this, would I be better off selling the optic? Maybe I could just use the funds from a sale to use towards the rifle purchase, and save up for an optic this summer.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance for the help!

I think you're putting the cart in front of the horse....see if you can find a place to shoot first! Then soak up as much information you can on long range shooting! If you're just starting out, you have a LOT of info to learn.
Then maybe you'll be more informed and make good purchases with your hard earned money.

Thanks for the advice. I agree that I've jumped the gun a bit, and I got on the Nightforce bandwagon without really considering the other long range shooting factors. That said, I'm still of the mind to sell the optic to fund a rifle purchase (obviously not on this forum, with my low post count et all...). Should I do this, or would it be better to keep the optic and then focus any additional funds on range fees, ammo, and rifle?

Thanks again!

Silver Spring. Where do you hail from?

South Maryland, basically the other side of the state. No ranges that go past 100 yards here either unfortunately.

I'd keep the 1-4X24 NF and use it on the AR 10T until you find a place where you can shoot more than 300 yards. I have the same scope on my LMT and it's gtg to 300 yards. Then if you find a place to shoot long range I'd go for more magnification. I still wouldn't sell the 1-4X24 as it is a great scope should you ever decide to get a rifle for CQ. If not take good care of it and you'll recover most of your $$$$.

Hmmm, point taken. Chances are I won't be able to get to a >300 yard range anytime soon, so I may just hold onto the NF and save up for the rifle this summer.

How visible is the target at that range, and what reticle does your scope have? Any recommendations on a mount?
