I just bought the Nightforce NXS 12-42X with NP-R2 reticle. I am having a hell of a time keeping the crosshairs in focus or even visible. I was so excited to get this new scope, but I am now having second thoughts. Any idea if this is normal? or possible there is something wrong with the scope?

If I cap off the end and illuminate the crosshairs they look great, but on a target they dissapear on me too easily..

when shooting on a white target and on a sunny day and the sun at my back I have a hard time with the cross hair
also if hunting in thick forest I loose the cross hair in the branches
but in open field its okay
wish the illumination was good for daylight use also

There are no setup instructions for the reticle focus with the scope. So to answer your question. no I did not.

I just went out and looked through it again. Its really wierd. Like the first time I look through it, I see them fine, but as I try to focus on the target, I loose focus of the reticle and I cant get my eyes to refocus on the reticle.

Maybe its me, but I have never had a nice scope like this and with my past scopes have never had any issues with seeing the crosshairs.

Just want to see what you guys have had for experiences with this scope. If the same happens or if it may be something I should discuss with nightforce support.

Maybe thats the problem.. I was thinking there wasnt one on there. I just went and tried to turn the eye piece independant of the zoom and did get it to free up. There was noting about that in the manual. I feel stupid if thats what it is. Thanks.

I don't know if you have glasses like me but with them its worst
you focus the reticle for one shooting position and when you change you don't look exactly the same in the scope and there again you have a bit of a fuzz on the reticle
have a swarofski and I love the fast focus on the eyepiece and the reticle is bigger also more relaxing for my eyes
but for target shooting the reticle on Nightforce is better
wish swarofski had reticle like Nightforce
just ordered a SB 1-8x24 short dot
and it has a fast focus on it, for me that will be just great....
forgot to say that I had a 12-42 Benchrest from nightforce with the fast focus ond loved it

Re: Nightforce NXS 12-42X with NP-R2 problem or no

I have the 5.5 x 22 NXS with the NP-R1 reticle and notice a similar problem. With the cross hairs being so thin, it is hard for my eyes to focus on the cross hairs and get them to be clear. With the ocular in focus it is still hard to always get a clear picture of the reticle.

If you have the owners manual its step 5 under "Ring Alignment" on 3rd page.

I had the same problem with my 3.5-15x56 NXS w/NP-R1. Even when focused the reticle was easy to lose in the brigh Texas summer sun.
