Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on which reticle is the best for both hunting at long ranges and target shooting in the off season. Its going on a REM 700 XCR tactical long range 300 Win Mag, I really can't make my mind up its etheir a nightforce or a Vortex Razor HD opinions?

Moa or Mil? Will you be ranging with it? Vortex hd is ffp whereas nxs in the 5.5-22x range is sfp. I own a 5.5-22x nsx in mlr with mil adjustments and I really like it as an sfp scope.

I was thinking mil but im not so sure im new to scopes with long range adjustments, i was more of a hunter but my friends got me into long range target shooting. Which is better, is it better to keep the reticle and the adjustments the same?

I have both of the scopes mentioned and you can't go wrong with either. I do like the open center of the Razor HD EBR2 reticle. The NSX may be a little brighter due to the larger objective.

Matching reticle and adjustments are preferable imho. You spot a correction with your reticle, you dial said correction and go, no Mil to moa calcs or vice versa. As for easier to use reticle wise, mlr would have intersecting crosshairs while ebr2 is open in the center. As for easier, with ffp I.e. razor the reticle scales stays the same regardless of zoom, with sfp I.e. nf nxs, reticle size remains the same which can make ranging tricky at sooner less than max.

The option of Mil vs MOA for me comes down to your shooting buddies. If you are the only one that has MILs or the only one that MOA it is going to be a pain to help each other out on wind calls. I recommend the np-r2 to a lot of people as well as the NP1-RR if you are punching a lot of paper. The small dots work very well for small targets at distance.

I went from the NP-R2, to the NP-R1, and now have the MOAR. I really like the MOAR; however, the reticle seems to be thicker than the two aforementioned and may not be desirable for long range (paper) targets.

I am a big fan of the mil/mil. I shoot alot of irons and 95% of my shooting is MOA, but with a scope, mil makes sense. It's tenths. Tenths are easy, with a matching reticle, it's easy to divide up by ten. Easy to guess in a tenth. And if your buddy has MOA, just think thirds, and you'll be real damn close. A tenth mil is closer to a 1/4 MOA than you think it is, usually closer than you can shoot to.

I have the same gun but a3.5 15 50 mil dot nxs .Love the scope hate the gun.My barrel blew out of the action the threads were 3/4 gone sent back to remington last week.Keep a check on the barrel.Good luck!

Thaks guys I've made my mind up im gettin a NF 5.5-22x56 NP-R1 after talking to a guy at alberta tactical the answer is clear i need a Nightforce!

you wont be disappointed. I used to have a NPR1 and now have a MOAR. Both are awesome.

I am old school and love the Mil dot I know there are better options but I love it. Go with NF... Best scope I own hands down.
