So I've been looking at adding the new NF 1-8 ATACR to my lineup of scopes. This sucker looks bad ass. Does anyone have any hands on experience with this guy? What are some other less expensive options?

I was looking into the 1-8 NXS but it doesnt seem to be in the same league.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a side note, I have an ATAC-R 5-25 with the illuminated Tremor 3 and I was wondering how the glass compares to an ATAC-R 7-35?
Anyone have experience here? I feel like I'd love to trade up to something with more power even if it isnt 100% necessary lol.
    Currenty shooting 308 for PRS.

I went through this same thing a couple months ago and received some great feedback from guys on this thread. I ended jp with the NX8 because size and weight was my primary concern. It seems the general consensus is the ATACR is certainly the better optic overall though. I'll probably slap one on my 308 SBR that I'm planning.

The Vortex Razor 1-6 is probably one of the most popular and well liked LPVO out there but it's SFP. The Kahles is also extremely highly regarded as well but is also 1-6 and SFP.

I recently sold my Razor HD Gen 2 1-6, it was nice, a little chunky, but super clear and bright glass. Only problem was it was an MOA reticle and I prefer MIL (and FFP)

I've owned an ATACR 1-8 for several months and have shot mine and others plenty from very close to beyond 1k yds. It's easily the most generous FFP LVPO I've come across. Especially for someone who is familiar with FFP precision scopes, you will feel right at home.

Most of those who I have known that were less receptive to FFP LVPOs seem to be coming from a world of red dots or SFP, which makes the differences between the two types of optical designs unwelcome. Those shooters seem to prefer either the Vortex or Kahles 1-6.

If you like intelligent reticles and the FFP dot, the ATACR is great.

I've used the NX8 some. It has a similar feel to that of my NXS 1-4. It's very usable, but the ATACR is obviously better.

Depending on your needs you might also want to consider the upcoming NF NX8 2.5-20x50mm or even the NX8 4-32x50. Both are coming in a few months and are FFP. Neither are meant to replace the ATACR as they are compact scopes and a step below that line, but the huge magnification range may be attractive for many applications.

Nightforce fan here. Have an NXS and a Comp BR, but after looking through a buddies atacr its now on the purchase list. Just for clarification I have not looked through a 1-8x just the 7-35x. But I would expect the glass to be the same.

I generally agree with everything @phlegm said about it. I've had the 1-8 ATACR on my duty carbine since summer of last year or so. Some people don't like FFP LPVO's. Some people think it's heavy. There are other good options in the LPVO world, but for me, the FFP reticle and daylight bright dot and the 8x top end were big selling points. That, and I trust Nightforce products. The NX8 is a great option too, but I don't like the reticle as well and it seems to be slightly more picky in the eye box than the ATACR.

My ONLY complaint with the ATACR is not its fault. I wish I had a parallax knob sometimes, but I understand why they have that fixed and I appreciate the simplicity. As a precision rifle shooter I Just wish I could tweak the focus every so slightly at times. But that's not what it's designed for.

I went with a Swarovski x5i (which I realize puts me in the minority). I wasn’t happy with the lowlight performance of the NXS and wasn’t as worried about the ruggedness of Nightforce as I liked the lighter weight Swarovski.

Otherwise the NXS was a great scope. Is the lowlight performance noticeably improved with the ATACR? Have you looked at Schmidt and Bender?

Others have mentioned parallax and FOV difficulties with the ATACR, but most I suppose have adjusted to them. If parallax might be an issue for you, you should check out the Minox 1-8. The Minox has a dual parallax feature. 50m @ 1-2.5x, 200m @ 2.5-8x. It's 1st AND 2nd focal plane for the dot/reticle.

I've never looked through the ATACR 1-8, but I have both the Minox 1-8 and Kahles 1-6. The glass, reticle, and features on the Minox make it worth considering along with the ATACR.

Been using the 1-8 ATACR for a few months now on my Knights CQB while waiting for an APC. Clarity is excellent and found the eye box forgiving. The only thing I would really change is a slightly different reticle. I find the center dot a little large (max magnification) when looking more for precision, would like to see something like the Mil-C.

I do not have 1-8, but I do have a 5-25 ATACR. It is awesome. Turrets are fantastic. It is well built. I have confidence that if I accidentally knocked the gun over or sent it through the TSA that it will hold zero. You will not find many people who do not like Nightforce.
