Nope, we didn't unveil the higher magnification FFP scope publicly, but they were there in the Military office. I won't comment on it as I'll let those who were really able to get their booger hooks on it tell you if it will be worth the wait or not.....

New reticles for the NXS 3.5-15x50 F1 will be here shortly and we anticipate 60 days or less before they're hitting the shelves.

Is the MLR2 going to be changed to a 2,4,6,8 numbering pattern and get all illuminated like everyone at the show talked about and wanted?

I see the point and have addressed the point with the appropriate people and while I definetely received comments about the numbering, certainly it wasn't "everyone" talking about it.

As far as it being changed, we haven't even made it back to the office yet, so I couldn't tell ya....

Re: Nightforce Shot Show flyer

While having 2 4 6 8 would be nice it isn't a big deal especially on the vertical ... I would think ref numbers on the Horizontal would be more useful given that a lot of us use hold overs for the wind and movers ...

3 / 6 / 9 I think would be good ... You could ref the mil before / after the numbers to get the correct hold without counting ... And still keep the reticle the least busy as possible.

Thank you for not dashing hopes farther - I'll keep my ear to the ground.

Re: Nightforce Shot Show flyer

I dont mind having just the center "+" illum, just dial instead of holding if its too dark to see the lines. It keeps from washing out the reticle and affecting my view in very lowlight conditions. My old style NF scope I had to turn down the illumination a lot, to keep this from occurring.

Also, I like the 5 and 10 numbering on the MLR2. I did a "2,4,6,8" vertical on a MLR2 diagram in photoshop and kinda like the 5,10 better (but I waiver back and forth on this). On the GAP the 2,4,6,8 just fits (I use both), but the MLR2, the 5,10 system works fine. If you notice the 5 and 10 hash marks are also longer, so its very fast and intuitive to look and count any MIL between the 5 and 10,

The MD2 might be a candidate for the 2,4,6,8. I sent in diagrams of how I would like the MD2 to look, and gave them to NF at SHOT, but I'm sure they have hundreds of similar submissions per year.

I have actually used the MLR2 in the field and really like it, but its all personal preference, and my opinion and 50 cents will buy you a small coffee.

One thing for certain, this thing is light years ahead of the old MLR and Mildot...

Re: Nightforce Shot Show flyer

Mark-have you ever shot a mover in the dark? Have you ever shot a timed multiple distance/target stage at night? Do you commonly hold over past 5 mils? Where are the majority of holds for most multiple distance/target stages? The reticle still leaves a lot to be desired for an all around match scope.

Jason-3, 6, 9 would be fine as well. 5 is just too coarse to be really fast. Agree on the horizontal as well.

Yes, yes, and not often. Good points. When doing that, I have to turn down the full reticle illum very low when at night. When the illum is that low for pitch dark shooting, and you are using same scope in the daylight, it is too low to see the reticle in desert and urban shadows. So you have to keep adjusting it, which is no problem on many scopes, but on the NF, its a pain to break out the little screwdriver and play with it every time.

Since the NF illum change is kind of a pain to adjust, I can leave this center illum on at a med-high setting and use for both night and day shooting, so 'for me' it works, by dialing. On multiple distance hold engagements in pitch darkness in a match setting, where you do not have to identify the threat first, this would fall short, so I see your point. Its all a compromise... Best case scenario for me w/ full reticle illum, would be to have a quick adjust rheostat like many of the other mfg are using....

If you need a 2,4,6,8 numbering with full reticle illum, I have one of those too, but this is a NF thread...

Lol. I know it. Hopefully all the concerns you just mentioned are addressed in the new NF offering. See you in a couple weeks at the match.

Re: Nightforce Shot Show flyer

why would march go through the trouble of numbering the reticle everywhere except the verticle ... sorry but hold unders do accure as well ...

MLR2 is an outstanding reticle ... and plan on hopefully putting a F1 on my 308 in the future.

Re: Nightforce Shot Show flyer

I made a change to one of the pictures from the first page to demonstrate ... take a look at how uncluttered the reticle is... how easy it is to find the correct mil marks etc...

I did a couple mockups for the 2,4,6,8 numbering system. These were sent to NF and also the illum issue, so we will see if they will switch gears at this time or already committed to producing. The MLR2 is very good right now, but a little refinement would make it even better. The MD2 in its current configuration would not interest me, and I have been a NF Mildot user since 2003.

Anyway, here is one of many I did for each reticle. These are computer generated, NOT through the scope pics like my ones above. The MD2 I did it on simulated lower power also, with some extra dots for wind (mini xmas tree effect). The current MD2 has no numbers and only goes to 5 MIL vertical, so this mockup is a complete redesign of the MD2. I dont think the MD2 would be very attractive unless they go the 10MIL and put a numbering system on it. As you can see at simulated low power, the numbers seem (to me) like a mandatory addition. As a disclaimer, I do not have an MD2, just the diagram to work with, so these are just concept mock-ups.

Once again, this is just a humble suggestion from someone of no real importance. Mark

Bill,
I need a new scope by this April and I'd really like to buy a NF optic. However, what I want hasn't been released yet. I would buy either of the following: a 5.5-22 SFP NXS if I can get it with the new MLR2 reticle or, I would buy the new higher magnification FFP scope, again with the MLR2 reticle. Is there any way you could please give me an ETA on either of these? I would also consider buying a mil/mil 5.5-22x NXS now if NF can assure me I'll be able to change the reticle to a MLR2 within a few months.

I love your company and I already own some of your products, but if none of the options I list above pan out in the coming months, I'll have to bite the bullet and order a Premier. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated!

i should have mine next month. it sounds like the windage marks are 1 moa apart instead of 2. the elevation marks are also labeled every tenth moa.

It looks more like every 10 MOA on the flyer. If it is only 5 MOA then the elevation MOA only goes to 15. Let's hope for 30.

Please post some pics when you get yours. Anxious to see it!

Thanks,

i apologize. you are correct about the elevation being labeled every tenth moa, not fifth.
