So I picked up a 223 trainer recently and it had a 4-14 SHV MOA F1 up top. This is the second one I had but I barely touched the first one before I sold it. Now that I've had some range time behind it, I wanted to give it a little review.

Body construction: solid, tight, not too heavy.

Turrets: exposed elevation turret and capped windage. I personally like this setup a lot and it's what I am used to from my US Optics scopes that I have. The turrets feel a lot to me like that of a Burris XTR II or Bushnell dmr. Not loud and 'clicky' like that of a Gen 1 PST or a Sightron SIII (not saying those were bad). I like the feel of the larger NXS turrets, but that's just me.

Glass: love it, love it, LOVE it! Very clear, very crisp, no fuzz. It's what I would expect with the nightforce name and only 14x magnification, but it was still nice to see.

Reticle: MOAR; Great reticle. Simple and easy to use. Not cluttered.

Function: tracking was spot on with my 223 out to 400 yards and back. Moved it 2 MOA left for the wind we were shooting in. Got done shooting, brought it back to zero, and it was right on today when I was back at 100 doing some velocity testing.

Overall a very nice scope for a good price. I was excited to see Nightforce put out a $1,000 optic and this definitely hasn't disappointed. Great scope for midrange shooting!

What are your thoughts on these? Curious to hear from others who are running one.

I want one real bad, not in the books right now...But it has everything I would want in a scope one of my favorite things is the capped windage! The ones I have looked through just blew me away with how awesome the glass is. I have a couple more suppressors to pay the tax man for and finish 2 AR builds and then I'll get one. Running the Athlon Argos 6-24 right now and that little scope is kicking some ass. I do wish they would come out with a 6-24 or 5-25 version of the F1.

Yea I wouldn't doubt we will see a 5-20 or 6-24 but I think they intentionally kept away from that so they didn't dig into their NXS sales, especially since they released the NXS F1 recently (which I would love to try out if anyone wants to send one my way, haha)!

Ill have to put it up against a PST Gen II and maybe the SWFA 3-15 soon since I have access to both of those as well.

i did a write up like this on the Millet TRS-1 a while ago but can't find the link anywhere so I might do that again for kicks. That's what my DPMS LR308 is sporting currently.

What NXS did they release recently?

Bit of a typo on my part. I was thinking the ATACR F1 which was 2015. Man, time flies.

I gotcha i was thinking i knew they recently updated some of the ATACR lineup, but didn't know of anything about an updated NXS lineup. That would be interesting if they did update the NXS lineup. I certainly think it needs it.

I was actually curious if someone knew the answer to this. I would say the quality is similar but that could also be because I'm using a SHV at 14x and NXS at 20-22
