Nightforce Spotter?

Nothing wrong with the Nightforce at all. I have a Spotter 45 as well and for about twice the money the glass isn't that much better. Of course the reticle, construction etc also figures in. If your gonna beat the shit out of it maybe blow the extra dough. Warranty on H45 is also suspect from what ive heard and i havent had to test it. Sent a few Nightforce scopes back through the years and very happy with their CS. I have both and am not planning on selling either one. Its said all the time. Swaro is also worth a good hard look. Buy once and cry once. Get what you want.

I’ve had a Leupold w/reticle for about 10 years has been my go to glass for range days or observation. I’ve had no problems with any of the ones I’ve used, but that’s me. Also back in 2009 American sniper org. (Good dudes) sent us a Burris that worked well when we needed it in Afghanistan. that had a reticle back then I’m sure they are probably still making something along those lines that would fill your need. As said above get a reticle.

All:

How do the milspec leupolds stackup compared to those listed above?
My Mk4 Spotter with the P4 reticle is awesome. 12-40x FFP

Reticle at 20x

A few shooting buddies bought the NF TS82’s over the past couple years. I had taken a look, but wrote them off as too expensive for my needs. I have a Kowa 82SV tank that was just fine. We mainly shoot NRA Highpower and the Kowa is basically the Vortex Gen2 Razr of that sport. It’s incedibly durable and heavy, and the warranty service is as good as Vortex.

Last month we were shooting a local PRS match and I bring out my Kowa on a tripod for the day and my friend took out his NF. The range faces SE and spring and fall mornings have us fighting glare from the low sun angle. I had my Kowa at the 989yd steel and could barely make it out against the dirt and vegetation. I took a step over to the NF and pointed it at the same target, the difference was incredible. I wanted one.

A couple weeks ago, I really needed to confirm bullet holes at 300yds against what the electronic target was showing. With the Kowa, this would be hit or miss. I might be able to see something 20% of the time. When I grabbed my friends NF, I cranked the zoom to 40x and could see the holes clear as day. Good thing, because it was his target. Lol. I bought one before we left FL for home.

One friend claims to have seen .22 or 6mm holes in paper at 600yds on 70x, in the right light. He’s not known to bullshit.

I got a set of Sig 3000bdx’s for the cool factor and to carry for spotting at matches where we have some walking between stages. The binos are nice, but severely lack in magnification and the ability to see mirage in anything but blistering hot and humid conditions. Plus, three or four guys in my usual squad have them also so ranging gets done anyway. There’s no way I could carry my Kowa on a tripod all day. It’s a tank full of bricks. This NF is much lighter and has orders of magnitude better glass. I’ll be carrying it instead of the binos now.

I got a deal on a demo unit from Euro and couldn’t be happier.

Hope this helps.

Depends on what you want to do with it.

If you want a reticle get something with a reticle.

If you want to see bullet holes get the best glass you can afford + some, then be ready for disappointment when you can't see them at 600 yds in less than perfect conditions in white paper.

If you want to read mirage, /trace there are a lot of options. I've got a Leica 77, an old Kowa 82 and I've recently started using a Celestron 56ED Hummingbird.

The Leica has awesome glass, but short eye relief.
The Kowa has OK glass and the best LER eyepiece made.
The Celestron has good glass and weighs 1/3 or less of what the other do, takes 1/4 the space, and I can read mirage just as well with it. My eyepiece has good eye relief but it's still only ½ what the Kowa has, but it has become my go to in my kit. I can't see myself lugging another honkin big objective scope again for shooting.

One thing about most of the scopes we use for shooting, they all take proprietary eyepieces. Once you leave that world you will find that there are a crapton of companies that make standard astronomical 1¼ eyepieces.

For shooting prone or long periods glassing you want an angled eyepiece. For pointing the scope at your target, and quicker acquisition you want straight.

I don't understand why Nightforce hasn't released a spotter with a reticle... Especially in this day and age... Painful being brand loyal.

TS82 style spotter:

- Horus Tremor variation (with reference to basic wind dots mainly for shooter / spotter comms) in the bottom half.
- FFP, no fixed 30x shit.
- Short rail on top or side for angled, red dot / ACI
- Big focus ring like they have.
- Under side rail attachment capability for NVG extenders etc.
- 500D cordura over neoprene cover

DO IT.

I have always said, for years, the best path for NF would have been to make Kowa eye pieces with their reticle in it.

Why OEM when you can create a cheaper and better alternative, putting your reticles in popular eyepieces seems like a smarter route. It's a direction with wider support if you think about it

That would be awesome if they did.
