I had a question about how to use a Nightforce with Velocity Reticles. I understand that I'm supposed to zero at 200 yards, but am curious on how the reticle is supposed to work on lower magnification since its a SFP scope. I like the speed the velocity reticle will allow me, however am concerned that it won't work at lower magnification. I figure if I need to get a shot off in a hurry (hog hunting), I will most likely do it offhand where I will have the magnification set on the low end. How do other people with this reticle use it?

Re: Nightforce Velocity Reticles question

It is made to work on the high end....so long shot will be on target with the recticle. But when you sight it in, just see where things are on the low end. I am going to be the owner of a NightForce 2.5x10x32 around my B-Day in October I will be running the Tactical Turrets and a NP-R2. Everthing will be MOA. I have thought about the same thing as you. But you know you always could just buy a Vortex Viper PST MIL/MIL FFP....Or a SWFA Super Sniper....Again MIL/MIL FFP. But if you have the coin run a Nightforce.

Re: Nightforce Velocity Reticles question

I was thinking of a NF with their velocity reticle also, but that SFP issue bothered me also. I just picked up a Pride Fowler RR800-1 3x9x44 FFP with a ballistic reticle. I've read a lot of good things about this scope. and it's much less expensive than the NF. I've seen them for around $650.

They buy F1 (FFP) version of NF

PS
What about SFP velocity reticles... if you know MOA drop on 10x between horisontal lines on your velocity reticle then on 5x they will be x2 and on 2.5x they'll be x4 - so it's rather easy to make "harsh" estimation which distance corresponds to which horisontal line on low-power for SFP NF

Re: Nightforce Velocity Reticles question

I think I'll set the zero-stop to a 100 yard zero, and just click to the 200 yard zero when I want to use the reticle. That way I have the option of dialing like a standard scope, and using the BDC reticle.

Re: Nightforce Velocity Reticles question

They have a 100 yard line above the center 200 zero,I use mine for 3 gun, love it! from 5 to 250 yards use the center or top crosshair on any power, after that dial it up and use the BDC, and its dead on!!

The center crosshair stays the same though out the mag range
