I am looking for a good nightvision scope for varmints, anyone have any sugestions? I am not looking at the cheap models, more in the $5000 range, which I guess for some might be the cheap models but not for me. Any experience would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Nightvision

Just got a ATN mars 6 Gen III in the white phosforous and its awesome. ATN has a cheap one GenII, put the white phos. is awesome and you can look through it all night long. Only thing is the mounting is a little cheap, need to work on that

You need a new mount for that

The D-740 or the D-760 is very good for a stand alone NV unit.

Re: Nightvision

Whatacountry.com has AN/PVS-4's for ~$1500.

Is that a good deal? How tough are new tubes to come by?

I understand it's a good unit as far as optics and durability goes but I know next to nothing about night vision...

Re: Nightvision

I have been looking at the ATN MARS genIII, and I see they have what they call a gen IV. Sounds like one of them would fit the bill. I also have looked at the Aurora day/night scope as well. I would like to have something that I could shoot something out there 300-500 yards, maybe that is stretching it I do not know, I have not been around any of them. It looks like a guy could get a IR light to extend your range if you had to. I see Cabelas has the ATN MARS and I called them to ask if there 60 money back guarentee was good with the night vision and they said that is was, which I cannot believe with nightvision, looks like there are many ways to do damage to your tubes that would be the fault of the user. I guess a guy could give one a try and if it is not what he was looking for send it back.

What kind of range would a guy get on a quarter moon night with the D-760. I am sure night vision is like everything else in which it depends on the particular situation as to how well it works.

Re: Nightvision

We find the D-760/740 probably the best units hands down for the money. They hold zero incredibly well and the images are superb. We lost count at the amount of hog kills we've seen in the civilian circles.

We will also be exclusively offering the new Larue version on the 760/740 QD mount. Randy has done an outstanding job on this new mount.

Re: Nightvision

I back that one up on the D740 and D760, superb image, holds zero, excellent price and for the money very hard to beat. The only thing I never did with any of mine was upgrade the mount, simply installed it with a torque wrench and socket, off to the range or hunting and worked just fine. I do prefer the D740 due to size, weight and 4x for most all hunting applications. If you get this add the IR ILLUM mount and one of there ILLUM's and you are gtg in any lighting conditions. OBTW, I have run them in both GenII and III, would have to review cost again to decide on which model I would go with and application, but GenIII is always better.

How about the LaRue mount?
Thanks. </div></div>

The 760's are in the $4300-4400 with a ITT Pinnacle Autogated tube. The new Larue QD 760/740 mount will be $289.00. Hope this helps.
