Rifle Scopes Nikon Black FX1000, Very Impressed So Far

Recently tried out a Nikon black FX1000 ffp 4-16 model. I've compared the glass to several optics including my Vortex PST Gen2 5-25, NightForce F1 SHV, Bushnell Engage 4-16 and a DMR2.
I compared all at 14X using a scope test chart at 100yds. The Nikon was near equal if not better than all but the NightForce & PST2 which appeared to have better contrast.
Turrets felt great and tracked well to 10 mil using a tall target test. The mrad reticle was also sharp and not cluttered.
Reticle also had correctly calibrated subtensions at 100 yards.
All in all, I was more than impressed with this long range optic.

No problem, I think you'll find the Black FX1000 a very capable long range optic.

I have this exact scope. I've primarily been a Leupold guy myself, but I put one of these on my Savage 110 tactical rifle. It definitely performs like a more expensive scope. I only have about 100 rounds with this scope so far, but I really like it. You will see some complaints about the crosshairs being a bit too big for competition. But, I don't shoot off of a bench. I usually shoot prone off of a bag or a quick makeshift rest of some sort over the hood of a truck at long range coyotes or hogs. So, with this type of fast target acquisition shooting, I think they are perfect. I had no problems so far taking out two coyotes at 400 and 500+ yds with it. I think it's a helluva scope for the money.

I have the FX1000 4x16 on a Rem 308 bolt gun. Far from an expert, but I'm digging the scope and just recently got it dialed in. My cousin has one of the nicer Vortex scopes, I think a Viper, and after shooting my rife, he wants a FX1000 now. For the money, I would think they are hard to beat. I'm going to put a Nikon M308 on an AR10 I'm picking up so that I'll have that as a comparison in the future.

Thanks for the reviews. I've been looking at the Vortex PST2, Athlon Ares ETR, and Sightron SIII before stumbling upon the Nikon FX1000. Going to do some more research before pulling the trigger. It'll be going on a T3X CTR.

From what I've seen the Pst2 clarity isn't quite as good as the fx1000, however, they're definitely close.
Yet, the turrets, reticle and warranty are all hard to beat with the Vortex, but then again the cost is a little more...

You contradict yourself here.... if Levi’s is offering the best deal then you go with them??? Either you connect your wallet with your beliefs or you don’t. Half way doesn’t accomplish much.

I’d like to compare the Nikon offering to the Diamondback tactical though, optically. Only doing a side by side in a well lit store doesn’t really count for much since that’s all I was able to do

Back to topic though... I don’t think I’ve seen any threads comparing the fx1000 and the diamondback tactical. I would hope the Nikon Is a little better because of the higher price point but the market for this style scope is getting to be awesome for the consumer with all of the competitors making good products at good prices.

I have never used the Diamond back, however, the FX1000 is right there with the Gen2 pst, and actually surpassed it in my 100yd tests optically.
I still prefer the turret feel on the pst2, but there's nothing wrong with the black fx1000 tracking.

Glass wise Nikkon BLACK is a few steps above the Diamondback IMO. Clarity at all ranges of magnification outdoors is noticeable. Diamondback seems to be "foggy" to me. More noticeable as you zoom in. Nikkon doesn't have that issue. Again...my eye/opinion.

I'm still leaning towards the FX1000 6-24. They have it on sale at Sport Optics for $677 shipped with their black friday discount. I haven't found a PST2, Ares ETR, or SIII on sale for anywhere near that price which if I did would make me reconsider.

I got my nephew one for his rifle a fx1000 6-24x for $675 & it’s great For the price. I have a vortex pst2 5-25 & it has a nicer eyebox, turrets, & reticle than the fx. The glass is close in performance with each other, so close I can’t decide which is better. Right now the FX1000 is $685 at sport optics with 14% off, vortex 5-25 is $930-1000, & athlon ares etr is $1050 at cameraland. If you are comp shooting you might want the athlon or vortex & steel shooting definitely the Nikon for the best value vs the others being $350 or more

I ordered a Vortex diamondback Tactical 6-24x from sport optics on sale for $340 & if it’s close to fx1000 or pst2 they will sell a lot but I have my doubts being its half the price & made in China

The Vortex Diamond backs seem to be Vortex answer to Athlons Argos line. I think where they might fall short is reticle options.... Athlons have them by a slight lead. Otherwise both have a very similar feel/performance. I do enjoy my Argos BTR for what I paid....it's a very tough competitor at several levels!

The old diamondbacks didn’t have good reticles but this new diamondback Tactical ffp line has the ebr-2c that’s in my pst2 & upgraded glass vs regular diamondback but I bet it won’t be a lot better glass wise but it’s going on my nieces 223 sps Tactical that she shoots out to 300-400 yards & at $340 I’m not expecting too much. I would like to get it side by side with the athlon because they bring good glass at reasonable prices from what I hear

I'd look at the Athlon Midas TAC - MAP $590 for the 4-16x44m or $630 for the 6-24x50. I put one on a V-22 Ranch in a Manners EH2, and think it's an excellent match for that rifle. I have a hodge-podge of different scopes on several of my AR15s, and am looking at replacing that mix of scopes with a few Midas TAC scopes. There's not a big price difference between the two models, so will probably go with the 6-24. One of the scopes I'm looking at replacing is an older Nikon 30mm 4-16x50 tactical, which has very decent glass, but has a plain old duplex reticle, and is sfp. If it weren't for Athlon's offerings at very attractive prices, I'd be looking at the FX Nikons instead.

Sport optics has the fx1000 6-24 on sale for $685, & most reviews are saying it’s better than the ares btr & close to ares etr. My nephews fx is is so close with my pst2 I can’t tell a difference

Well, my Fx1000 is a good scope but I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it is not as good as the Athlon ARES ETR.

The reticle is not bad, but I'd much prefer more of a Christmas tree design like the ETR has.
Parallax is easily removed from both optics.
Eye relief is better on the ETR but neither are bad in that area. Both have fast focus ocular adjustments to get the reticle nice and crisp.

The glass is also no where close to the Arhlon. You can use the ETR out to about 25-27 with very good optical clarity, however the FX1000 is only clear to about 16-18 max.

The FX1000 is not a bad scope, and I certainly prefer the feel of the turrets more than the ETR.
The illumination is good on both, but tracking is where most would say the ETR is topnotch.
All in all, it's about your budget and needs, they will both work for you depending on the situation.
