I recently bought a GAP-10 and am looking to equip it with some optics. I'm a Nikon fanboy so naturally I want to get one of their M308s for it since it's chambered in .308. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with this scope yet.

Re: Nikon M308

Maybe because he bought the gap10 is why he has to scemp in order to shoot it. Buy once cry once my ass. I've bought a couple optics for "temporary use" in the past and after using them for a time couldn't figure why I needed to upgrade for their use. OP, research it and buy what you're leaning towards. If it dosent meet your expectations, sell it and upgrade when you can. Nikon holds their resale pretty good....and for good reason.

Okie

The scope has good glass, and seams fairly durable. Im not a big fan of a 1 inch tube, and I despise aiming at long range with a open circle. The part that its designed for a 308 is a marketing gimic

What he said, almost. I just recently sold a 4-16X42 SF BDC that I had on my AR for about 400 rounds. Scope was flawless. Good glass and I got it of SWFA's sample lit for around $350. Only reason I sold it was that I only use the AR to punch paper at known distances and the lines were a bit thick for my taste, so I replaced it with the same scope, only with the Nikoplex reticle. The M-308 is a gimic as it's only calibrated for one bullet weight at a specific velocity, you're better off getting a Monarch with either the BDC or mil dot reticles. In addition to having a lot more choices in scope power and objective sizes, you can use the spot on software to find out which dot corresponds to which distance. Unless you plan to do a lot of shooting out past 600 between dialing and the mil dots the limitations of the 1" tube shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Nikon M308

Yes it is designed for the 168gr bullet but you can enter a different load in the Spot On program and still use it. I myself have used this scope out to 700yds on my buddies DPMS 308. It was a blast on steel. I dont feel that the reticle obscures too much of the target. Go with their Mil Dot if you another option. Here's my buddies I did a few mods before I gave it back to him.

Re: Nikon M308

Brian, Great pic. While I haven't put a round under a M-308 I have enough friends who have and truthfully,I have not heard anything negative about the accuracy and ease of shooting this Nikon Scope. I have a LMT .308 just waiting to get under one of these. Don't forget if you buy one they come with the M-308 AR Mount with 20 MOA. If you don't want to shoot the 168 grain bullet's take a look at the BDC Reticle. I have shot over a dozen different rifle's with BDC scopes past 600 yards with ammazing accuracy. Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program and their BDC scope's really do enhance your rifle/ammo accuracy. Over 1,000,000 folk's using this program say's a lot of the support of Spot On and Nikon's BDC reticle. Of course, just because I do some freelance work for Nikon doesn't mean I believe all Nikon's product's are for everyone, but I do believe there is something for just about everyone. at the very least, take a look at what they have to offer and then buy whatever you think will work best for your needs. Nikon does have a great promo going on right now, $100 off some longrange Monarch scope's. As always, any question's drop me a note.

Why would buying a Nikon be skimping?

Really, you have never heard anyone complain about aiming with a opebn circle at 600 yards? IF you have not hear of them complaining about that then your friends have not used the scope at long enough ranges to give a opinion.

Nikons spot of ballistics are no diffrent than any optics companies ballistic charts.

Re: Nikon M308

I like nikon products also, BUT if I was going to spend that much money on glass I would atleast get a vortex viper PST 4-16 FFP. Especially for a kick ass rifle like a gap-10.
