I was in Sam's this afternoon and a young man was hawking DirectTV. I walked by and he asked if I was interested. "Sorry, I don't watch television."
"What do you have, cable?"
"No."
"Oh, you have the old rabbit ears." (he was laughing)
"No," I said, "I just don't watch television. Never was much into and now I use my time for better things."
"Wow, that's funny."

I wish I had a picture of his face. It would add volumes to this narrative. He was incredulous that someone actually lived without watching Dancing with the Stars.

LOL, good for you. I got rid of mine a couple of years ago and never looked back. I find my overall stress level down a lot.

I havent had tv since 04 I think. Dont miss it much at all. Netflix is the best thing there is.

Re: "No Cable TV!"

I haven't owned a tv for 6 years. When I tell this to people they do get that "your nuts" look on their face. It's weird that you have to explain to them that there are more important things in life than watching the goings on of other peoples lives.

Re: "No Cable TV!"

I enjoy my American Chopper, Storage Wars, American Pickers, American Restoration, and Pawn stars....

That's all I watch except Gold Rush on Friday and 48 hr mystery on Friday (G/f watches it)

I hate that guy and walk in the opposite direction when I go to Sam's. Will have to use that line next time they ask me which provider I have.

Re: "No Cable TV!"

I still can't fathom how a lot of people shell out 100-250 bucks a month on cable (almost a car payment) when most of the programs on TV don't have much substance. Even the discovery channel which had educational programs back when I was a kid is just complete and utter garbage nowadays with the stupid reality TV shows.

I'd much rather take that 100-250 bucks a month and put it towards a hobby and learn useful skills while keeping myself entertained.

KUDOS.

I have netflix- it's affordable and useful IMO. Unlike the government I try to be fiscally responsible.

This is the key. People are going to spend their disposable income on entertainment. For you it's your hobbys and skills, for others it's movies, dinner, opera, netflix, or whatever. Cable and satellite tv are players in the entertainment industry, not just TV watching.

How much does it cost to take your wife and child to a movie? $50? $75 after concessions? Heck that's half a cable bill in many cases.

Re: "No Cable TV!"

The computer that I am using now is connected to my big screen "monitor", and I get broadcast tv. I am so remote and surrounded by big hardwoods that I can't get cable or satellite.
Netflix, and Hulu are good to have. I watch very little tv, but too much time on this computer.
Just about all my news comes over the internet, much of it on the Hide. LOL

Got pissed at mine cause the antennae kept screwing up and jerked it outta the wall and threw it on the concrete floor...rendering it permantly incapacitated. I love violence against inantimate objects.

Re: "No Cable TV!"

We do have satellite tv and multiple tv's in our house and amazingly enough don't watch that much tv. The few things we do watch are Nascar racing, Food Network, TLC, Discovery, and the Outdoor Channel. The kids watch the educational kids shows that we approve of only, no spooge blob or the likes. Can't stand reality shows or any that stuff. The majority of the time it is actually tuned into satellite radio and not TV. The only reason we have had cable or satellite is to have internet service and for the kids.

Re: "No Cable TV!"

I only watch some comedy shows to relax me after work. Some history and discovery channel. I would rather chew my own dick off than watch dancing or singing competition shows
