I've only used a black reticle once. My only other scope time has been the ACOG, which was red.

Both the ACOG (the BDC) and the black crosshair leupod that I shot were almost impossible to see when I would shoot a black silhouette. perhaps not impossible, but it def made it hard to read out. I would imagine it would be even harder when range estimating...

so I wanted to ask if anyone else has trouble with that?

I ask here because when looking at the TRS-1, most people said the illumination wasn't a necessity.

how do you guys deal with it?

Re: No trouble shooting black targets without illum?

Only time its been an issue for me is when shooting < 200 yrds close to sunrise and sunset. Thats how our range is set up. I found a hat helped to reduce the glare off my eyes. Once I get past that...its not a problem..... (NP-R1 SFP) The NF has a crisp and clear image and I've only had trouble once...

Illum wont help if its broad daylight. IMO...the illum on the TRS-1 sucks ass....there is too much light scatter....even at the lowest setting.

Hope this helps....Good luck
