Need opinions on noise canceling headphones. They would be used for air travel and at the beach to cut down on wind noise. Listening to music would be the secondary function.

They would have to pair with an iPhone.

Bluetooth would be preferred but I would not be opposed to something wired.

Anything good out there?

air pod pro gen 3 or whatever they are up to now.

end of thread

eta: Bose in ear SUCKS BALLS. It should be a crime to call the “comfort” or “quiet” as they are neither.

I didn't care the beats they squeezed my temple's enough to give me headaches. Switched to bose over the ear and loved then. Used then for sleeping on a boat and eventually broke them. Replaced then with the in-ear now and they work awesome, but they suck for trying to sleep with them in my ears.

got my daughter the Sony WH1000XM5 that was on sale last christmas at costco, and she likes them. not on sale anymore. :(

I ware hearing aids and behind my ears are sensitive and have a big head with big ears.
I ended up getting the Sony WH1000XM5's.
Outside of gaming head sets the Sony and the Apple where the only ones that fit me comfortably without touching my ears or hearing aids.

This is what I wear on tractor and while driving Smaug!

They are great!

I have 2 pair. JBL over the ear NC ($100). (not sure of model) and wife bought me the Beats ($150) on the ear NC. Gave my daughter the JBL because Beats was better but not by much. I mainly use them to mow. I've been looking at trying the Sony NC over the ear.
I've tried the apple ear buds but they hurt my ear after a while. maybe the new Pro series would be better.
I used the JBL back in October on a plane trip to Colorado. Worked ok keeping out cabin noise but not great. The beats are slightly better for slightly more money. I'm guessing I need to move up to the 2–3-hundred-dollar range for noticeable improvement.

I use AirPods Pro (2nd generation), and they are amazing at noise cancelation and sound quality.

If you're looking for over-the-ear, give the AirPod Max a listen. They are expensive but they are unreal. My son uses them when studying in his dorm and he swears by them. I compared them to my BOSE and they are not in the same league.

Bose over the ear are the way to go for air travel. I still have the original pair from when they released the noise canceling. I think they are on gen 3 or 4 now. Good sound quality and no aircraft noise when you fly. Just be prepared to replace the ear cups every few years. The leather or fake leather tends to split. Easy enough fix. Usually Amazon has them on sale on their Prime day or Christmas sales.

I find their in ear buds comfortable but those are the cabled version. They come with all sorts of inserts to match your ear size and the silicone is soft. I have two pairs of those. One for work and one for home.

Yamaha doesn’t seem to have very good reviews on Amazon.

As much as I like titties (and I do like titties). I doubt that my wife would be too amused.

Seems that the big three are Bose, Sony, and the AirPod Max.

Guess I’ll be going to Best Buy to do a little side by side.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming

Just wanted to let y'all know that the WEF had already announce at their meeting two years ago they were capable of picking up an individual's brain waves (inferred they could read "thoughts", or at least responses and state of alertness) on these devices.

Carry on.

So the Sony didn’t fit right. Bose was OK. JbL felt the best. I’m too low class to be escorted to the Apple case. Guess I’m off to the Apple Store next.

My WEF handler will need serious therapy if they have to read my thoughts for 8 hours.

JBL durability kinda sucks for their headphones. We have a friend that used to work for them. He would give my coworkers free headphones and ear buds all the time. The ear buds had pairing issues or one would work and the other wouldn't. The ear cups on the headphones fall apart quickly. Just be warned. The guys here have tried everything from JBL when we had a contact there. Several warranty replacements only to fail again with the same issues. So 4-7 guys going through ear buds every 1-3 months, and 3-4 months before ear cups fell apart on the over the ear. This was even with the top of the line. None of them use the JBL earbuds/headphones anymore.

JBL makes great audio components and speakers. Other stuff not so much. Their bluetooth portable speaker things are great by the way.

Not for your purpose but since others are on here reading, for music w/ ANC and Bluetooth:
- Focal Bathys. App is excellent and ANC is decent as good as anything not Bose, which are hands down the best for ANC. These are the shit. Badass plain and simple.
- Mark Levinson 5909 close second but lack of EQ control in an app killed em for me and appearance is pretty horrible IMO. ANC about the same as Focal and Momentum’s.
- Sennheiser Momentum wireless 3 and 2: close 3rd to these other two. Good app. Decent ANC.
