Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

When shooting non-tactical stuff (F-class, etc.), I am partial to my fixed 32x Mark 4. It has a ton of elevation adjustment, very good glass and tracks like a champ. Used a 8-32x NF in the past and this Leupy is far superior, IMHO. Unfortunately, one cannot buy a new one of these units as Premier doesn't boost 'em anymore. Oh well, glad I have mine.

If I was buying a new long range, high power target scope, I would probably look at a Sightron (if money was tight) or the 12-50x S&B (if money wasn't an issue).

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

Love my Leupold VXIII 8.5-25x50 LR, with varmint retical. Works for me!

If on a budget, the Weaver T24 or T36 are very reasonable with great tracking.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

Well I just shot in my first match (250yrds not long but a start) anyway I shot with my Bushy elite4200 4-16x50 it worked great but next is out to 550. I think I'll need a lil more magnification for farther out.

It's very nice. Crystal clear and bright. Tracks goods and has side focus. I have no experience with super high end optics, but it is better than anything I've ever had. It seemed expensive to me at first, but it was worth it. You can find them used for $600ish. I chose the target dot over the mil-dot because I find the mil-dot reticle too busy for target shooting and I shoot at known distances. If I ever needed to range a target, I'd rather have a $200 laser range finder, than try to guesstimate it with mils. I have no problem with MOA clicks either. Scope has 100 MOA adjustment so even with a flat base, 1000y zero is possible with most calibers. The glass has been compared to NF glass by many people. The farthest I have shot with it is 550y and even at 16x, image is crip and bright. Hitting a 12"x12" plate was pretty easy. Image gets slightly darker around 20x-24x but is still very usable. At that power mirage becomes a bigger factor than image clarity.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

I have a Sightron SII 24x44 that use for "any" rifle shooting in NRA long range matches. It has a target-dot reticle.

That being said, I just picked up a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X44 w/ target-dot reticle that was on closeout at Cameraland NY. See this post. I have the same scope in the mildot reticle and feel it has better glass than the Sightron.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

I ordered a 10 to 50 power Sightron from Scott at Liberty optics -it should be here next week and shot by next Saturday.I use a s&b 5-25 normally but want something a little bigger for f-class and for the money I reckon Sightron is a great choice -I have found hardly any negative posts about them , mostly positive comments .Anyway next Saturday ill let you know my intitial impresssions

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

I use a Sightron SIII 8-32x with target dot for F-Class. I really like it. It tracks very well and is crystal clear. The majority of the scopes I see at the local matches are either Sightron or Nightforce with a few Weavers and Leupolds.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

I use a 12-42X56 nightforce and a 9-36X56 IOR. Both are great and have areas I like better than the other. If money isn't an object I would look strongly into March scopes.

This is primarily the standard in LR bench shooting. The reticle may vary, but you will always see a dozen rifles fitted with the NF BR 12-42 on the range. They always make the winners equipment lists.

Sure there are a lot of other options, the March 8-80, 10-60, etc etc, but the NF BR rules the roost in the style of shooting you are contemplating. Check www.6mmbr.com for more information.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

I think I may end up going with either a Nightforce NXS or maybe even another Bushy 4200 series since this rifle could end up being my varmint rifle as well.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

What magnification range are you going with? I think if I had it to do over again I would go with the 8-32 instead of the 12-42. You don't gain much in going from a max magnification of 32 to 42 and I think you get around 15 moa more elevation with the 8-32 model. Either way you will love the scope and it won't fail you.

Bet that was quite the setup. Here's another oddball "bench PD gun". Eddystone 25-06 and either a Unertl 15x UV or 2" Tgt. 20x--

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

i have used most of them now use a March 10-60X52 it has 60moa of elevation 10moa per turn and awsome glass it is the ultimate for target shooting.

Over 3 grand here in Australia but well worth it when you are at the top and want to stay there i had a NF lunch itself in a comp and had to get something better as i dont want it to ever happen again.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

I have a 16x42 S3 while not f class glass,I`ll chip in another 02 cents about sightrons their great scopes for the money

long range is all abotu glass quality. Burris, Sightron and all the other sub $1500 scopes aren't going to cut it for 1200+ shots. You've gotta go with at least an NSX. I shoot out to 1500 and if it weren't for my glass I wouldn't even be in the ball park. Gota buddy with the Burris XTD XDT whatever, and anything over 800 gets questionable.

Not too sure how to take your "NF lunch" comment but March is super good for bench-rest applications.

Re: Non tactical long range scope? What are you useing

beg to differ with the (sub $1500 scopes not cutting it) I have a NF and SIII. The SIII may not be a FFP battle scope, but tracking, calibration, and glass are on par with the NF. Some who have looked through both scopes like the site pic better. Ask Scott@liberyoptics about Sightron.
