First off... the only scope I have is a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x50mm. I'm now sorely tempted to buy a high end scope, but I'm trying to narrow it down based on my needs. (Blowing accurate holes into paper)
Is it just me, or do PH and S&B's reticle choices seem to be oriented towards tactical shooting? I'm sure their reticles are great for shooting man sized targets in rapid fashion, but what about for punching paper at long distances? It seems that having little hash marks/dots every .5 mils isn't as desirable as a mil-scale MPR with .25mils per hash/dot. (The MPR reticle is an available option for any USO SN-3)
Just reading various comparison tests, it seems people think S&B and PH optical clarity are superior to USO's. I haven't looked through any of these high end scopes, but is the difference really that noticeable? I actually like the look of the USO SN-3, but I am more concerned about the reticles.
On another note... I've looked at a Nightforce scope in person before. Couldn't get the opportunity to really check out the optics as it was in a small room. The knobs seemed to be a bit hard to dial and made me overshoot a few times.
Oh... and I've looked into Horus reticles... and while they seem like a cool idea, I'm not forking over $800 to get it on a PH or $400 on a USO considering how those companies are already having a tough time dealing with Horus.
