Noob reloading ?

I have about 75 pieces of .223 brass that have all been resized, trimmed, primered. After finishing up I put an empty piece of brass in the rifle too see how it fits. The case slides into the chamber fine but if I stand the rifle up on its butt with the bolt open the case will drop out on its own. I checked the diameter compared to a factory round and its only off by .001-.0015.
Will I have a problem firing these?

Should I plan on only neck sizing next time because they will only be fired from 1 rifle.

Re: Noob reloading ?

Full disclosure is that I am a fellow noob.

I would be surprised if it didn't fall out.

You have some reading to do, but the common consensus I think I have noticed here on SH is to neck size if it's just one rifle and target work. I FL and have seen other on here mention that they do.

Yes I did use a full length sizing die. And after doing so I know a few steps that I should have done as far as setting die, then sizing, checking case in chamber, and then adjusting accordingly. After reading through the Reloading 101 thread again.
I'm just wondering will this small difference in size have any ill effect on firing.

Re: Noob reloading ?

You will want to full length resize every time for a semi auto. A round should chamber very easily and likely will fall out of a clean weapon. I just checked mine and a round fell out even after pressing it into the chamber with my finger.

A bolt action can have a tight fit because of the powerful camming action of the bolt. As far as setting up your dies, I'd use the manufacturer's instructions.

Re: Noob reloading ?

If the case came out of one rifle, and falls back out after being chambered with the bolt open, there is every reason to expect they will fire just fine.

I Neck Only sized AND shot 2000 rounds last year in 223 in my AR15 without a Failure-to-<insert favorite failure mode here>. Those that say it can't be done are simply incorrect--however, when doing this for ANY rifle; one needs to measure the shoulder position and the case web diameter on every case every time*. Thus, it is not faster, it just makes the brass live longer. (*) Any case that fails a measurement either goes through a body die or a FL die.
