There have been a few changes!! We will be having a 2 day sniper/tactical shoot starting october 1 thru october 3 at the bradford sportsman farm located in Graham FL. This is a new event for us but we're sure it will be a challenge to shoot.
It will be limited to thirty shooters and the entry fee will be $75.00. We will be shooting rifles from 75 out to 850 yards. Handgun target will vary from 7 out to 30 yards. Allowed rifle calibers are anything from 223 rem up to 300 WM/WSM bolt or semi-auto, handgun will be limited to 38/357 revolver, 9mm,40 S&W and 45acp. There will be multible courses so we can keep everyone shooting and moving. below is just a general idea of what to expect at the 3 day event.
All shooters will limited to one rifle and one handgun except for a serious mechanical failure of the primary which will need to be checked by an event official to confirm. Round count will be 92 rifle and 52 handgun but as always bring extra just incase of failure and for practice.
Friday The range will be open to shooters at 12:00pm and is basically a meet and greet day with zeroing at the 300 yard rifle range and the 50 yard handgun range. We will serve dinner around 6:00 pm and immeaditly afterward there will be a shooters meeting where we will divide the shooters into 15 person teams which will be shooting at two different areas of the range on saturday. We will introduce the RO's, handout the event tee shirts and go over the saftey items. If you do not wish to register on-line you can also register in person either Friday evening or if you can't make it down on friday you can still register Saturday morning but must be there before 8:00 am but remember we have a cap of 30 shooters
Saturday the fun begins at 8:00 am with the shooters required to be in their assigned staging areas not later than 8: 30 am as we will shut the range down to all traffic once we start shooting, this of course for safety reasons. We will be running two teams of 15 shooting 2 different locations simultaneously to be completed by noon at which time we will stop for a bite of lunch and ammo refills. We will start shooting again at 1:30 pm but the shooter will need to be in their next assigned staging area by 1:00 pm and we will be shutting the range to traffic once we start fire.
Sunday we start the same way except all shooters will be on the 850 range for some precision shooting scenarios which should be completed around 12:00 pm. We will be giving awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place shooters for both days and Best combined for both days.

Re: BSF 2 day tactical/sniper event

do we work with a spotter during the sniper portion? do we shoot differant stages thru out the day each day or do you shoot all the stages at once and then your done for the day?

Re: BSF 2 day tactical/sniper event

scootball, There will be spotters watching your target for score but you wont have a dedicated spotter calling your wind or dope. The first day has several stages up to lunch time when we will break to eat then do several more stages until the end of the day. On Sunday we shoot all the stages until we are done with no official break.

Ah, thank you. I went back and re-read the original post and saw the registration info. The match and reg. info all ran together, maybe add a paragraph break next time?

The way I read it is that it's an individual competition (vs team). Most individual competitions don't have spotters to call shots for you, you need to be able to hit them yourself. Very difficult to keep it fair otherwise.

Re: BSF 2 day tactical/sniper event

i understand, but all the sniper events i have been to, even though you are scored individualy, you still work with a spotter, especially when shooting at extended ranges. Most of all the guys i know that shoot these type of matches have a partner that they shoot with a spot with anyway. hope to make down there to one of the events anyway, sounds like fun.

Re: BSF 2 day tactical/sniper event

Just got home from the match. It was outstanding! Great variety of targets, shots, positions and distances. We shot rifles from 100 to 850 yards. Targets had varying degrees of difficulty. Just enough pistol mixed in to make it fun and interesting. Everyone hit plenty of targets but there were several difference makers that seperated the winners from the pack.

Rick and his crew did a great job of setting up and administering the event. Things ran very smoothly, you'd have thought they'd done many of these type events by the efficient way it was run. Bradford Sportsman's Farm is a wonderful venue for a competition such as this!

Be sure to keep an eye out for future matches of this sort put on by Rick at Bradford Sportsman's Farm. It's definitely worth the drive for a fun weekend of field rifle ("sniper") shooting!

Re: BSF 2 day tactical/sniper event

I had a great time at the match. Thanks to Rick and the crew for working so hard to make things work so smoothly. I predict this match to grow in popularity.

Enjoyed meeting some great people. Congratulations to Pat in winning the overall. Congrats also to Bob for winning the 2nd day all from the 850 yard line. That was some great shooting I was impressed by his performance with his .308 beating the 6 and 6.5mm's

Thanks to all

Re: BSF 2 day tactical/sniper event

Many thanks to Rick and his crew for putting on THREAD THE NEEDLE. They put in a lot of work on setting this up and it showed. The facility there is terrific and the people warm and friendly. Thanks Barb for cooking up dinner Friday evening! Rick even managed to spice the event up with deer and later turkey running out on the 850 yd range and a rattlesnake joined us at one of the pistol stages. That is going above and beyond to make for an enjoyable weekend for the participants. BSF seems to be jam packed with Florida wild life. Did not see any bear although I understand they are there.

As Dave alluded to, the targets were just right. Enough challenge to tax the best yet lots of sections that let everyone enjoy the ringing of steel.

I learned a lot from the guys I shot with - Thanks Dave T, Dave R, Greg, and Ron for the tips along the way. Congratulations to Pat - great shooting! Looking forward to the next event.

338 LM would be waaaaay overkill even if it was allowed. To give you an idea of the winning calibers here (and at most of these type matches), the Saturday winner shot a .243, the Sunday winner shot a .308 and the overall match winner shot a 6.5x47 Lapua.
