Hey Gang:

I've got a Woodland Caribou/Newfoundland Moose hunt booked for next year. I plan on taking my GAP .308. I've loaded some of the new Accubond 190 Long Range and they shoot well at 0.005" off the lands, but then they are too long for my magazine, have to shorten them up and see if they still group as well. I was wondering, anybody have an opinion on the 180 E-Tip versus the Accubond 180? I bought some to load and try, wondering if I should just look for some 180 Accubonds. Thanks for your help.

What sort of velocity are you getting with 190s? If you can get 180s up around 2650-2700fps I would just go the Accubond route. My dad uses the 180gr Accubond out of his 300 Win for elk hunting and it works very well for that. I like a little extra velocity and generally stick with 165gr out of 308's and 30-06. This year I am going to use 165gr Partitions out of my Remington model 7 308, the shorter barrel is limiting the velocity I can get but it sure carries nicely.

Shot the e-tips and got away from them. When I pick a bullet I look at how expansion is as the velocity slows down. I shot an elk @ 840 yards with a 180gr E-tip in an ultra mag, the expansion was very little. That was about 5 years ago and I still have a couple boxs sitting on the bench.

Thanks wverybody! That helps a lot! I'm getting 2615 fps out of the 190's. I haven't chrono-ed the 180's yet. I will buy some 168's Accubonds and test them too. The 168's should do the trick on the Caribou, I might use some180's on the Moose, should be fairly close range. I really appreciate your experience and advice!
