So chubbles and I got out early this morning to try stretching out our new guns. Mine was my new 7mmSAUM DTA SRS Covert, chubbles had along his new stick, a PCR built Badger m2008 6.5X47 in an XLR. as the sun came up over the top of the hill beyond the target, we found a very interesting phenomenon that I have never witnessed. The sun was hitting at such a shallow angle that we could see the sunlight reflecting off of the bullets in flight, simply put, we could watch THE bullet fly through the air and hit at 950 yds. In the videos if you look youl seee a big rock with a dirt patch on the right edge, its hard to see but there is a 10" gray rock in the middle of the dirt. That was our poa.
    here is our shooting position:

Here is chubbles on the "Phoenix" as we have lovingly dubbed it:

Here are the videos, they were filmed in HD so do yourself a favor and watch them full screen in 1080P, you can see the bullets fly!
It made me feel even better when I saw how flat they shot.

it was a religious experience, or something. seeing the actual bullet just gliding downrange so gracefully like that for the first time.....it was surreal.

shooting long range is usually somewhat an abstract activity when it comes to studying ballistic coefficients and programming density altitude into the computer to get a drop table etc... comparing bullet performance and wind doping; talking trash on other peoples trajectories and how much flatter yours is over theirs or how much better yours is in the wind. but when you see you bullet cruising across a canyon like its on a rail and a 15 mph wind isnt even touching it. its a mind altering experience. it all becomes so real. its like all that data just got peeled back and your seeing a layer of reality that was blacked out before.

    You pegged it beyond perfectly...

I had to make myself stop chasing bullet glint footage every time out as it's truly something that defies your mind, and must be seen in order to be fully appreciated.

    Re: not your typical trace

This just happened to me the other day at the range with my 22! It was at 100 yards and the absolute weirdest thing. At around the 75 yard mark I could see the bullet in the air and watched it hit the target. I felt like I had a 'zen' moment haha.

The other really cool thing is using tracers. Its obviously not as mysterious since you know its because of the tracer, but its still really cool seeing the bullet fly all the way to the target.
