Range Report Noveske 5.56 14.5, M855 to 700 yds (800 on 23 Dec)

Not really a range report, just seeing what M855 could do in my AR and I thought I'd share some pics.

Me like !!!! Outstanding stuff. I have taken my AR-15 out to over 1000yds, but with fancy hand loads (70gr VLD, 77 SMK, and 75gr AMax). You learn a lot about wind reading shooting those wind-mule bullets

Impressive.

I have only taken my 14.5 to 600 yards (with handloads). The rear sight has enough elevation to get to 700 though

13.5 MOA to get to 500yd, hitting at 1461 fps with 294 ft/lbs
24.5 MOA to get to 700yd, hitting at 1138 fps with 178 ft/lbs

Guessing my muzzle velocity was 2725 fps, since that was the only unknown in my software. Using Shooter app on my phone, fwiw

14.5" fluted, 1:7 PT (polygonal tapered), mid length gas, Match Mod 0 chamber from Noveske

very cool. i bet those 262's will fly.

that's pretty impressive shooting with a 14.5! i'm running a similar setup with a 1-4x vortex pst and looking for better groups. i was hoping you'd say a 1:7 barrel because that's my next try to get this thing shooting the way i want.

Same gun, different day.
M855 green tip at 800yds, tgt is still 22x14.
got lucky with a first round hit on head...
Had 28 MOA on the gun (turret maxed out). Pulled a minute off to get a little lower. Definitely missed a few, I prolly hit 80% of the shots I took. Wasn't holding for wind, jerked a few, but I was kind of pleased to see that my elevation was consistent.

with those little bullets can you hear them ting the steel at that distance? I was shooting my bolt 223 at 600 with 308's and you could barely hear my 223's but the 308's were very audible.

On the verge of ordering some M855 myself. Nice shooting. What optic are you running that? Leupold?

Ya man, Leupold MR/T 1.5-5x20 with Illum SPR reticle.

I guess M855 is supposed to be 1.5 MOA ammo, but I think it's sub MOA for sure (albeit a cunt-hair under MOA). Granted; I'm shooting it from a Noveske but hey whatever.
Next time out I'm gonna see how well the longbow upper (M16A2 with KAC FF rail) does with M855. Pieced it together with spare junk the armorer had lying around.

Kinda pissed I didn't hold for wind on the 800 yd target... I'm pretty sure I could have a decent 8-10" group.

5x at 800yds is a good challenge...feeding me humble pie
