For many years I had been debating getting into welding on my own. Lately, I had been bringing all of my steel target and target frame projects that needed welding over to my favorite nephew's house. He owns a Lincoln 225/125 volt tombstone arc welder and has giving me a few lessons as we worked on my projects. Recently, I had been waiting weeks for his schedule and my schedule to mesh, so that I could get a few minor items welded together. I stumbled upon a deal and made the purchase to get my own rig and just do the work whenever I need it done. I picked up a Campbell Hausfeld 115 volt 100 amp wirefeed flux core / MIG setup. I debated on the 225 Licoln Arc vs. the wirefeed style and went with the lower volt model, due to the fact that I'd be mostly doing small projects and I have access to nephew's bigger model, if needed.

The Campbell Hausfeld (model WG2160) that I bought was very easy to setup and get working (less than 10 minutes from box to ready. Very intuitve setup.). The only suck came when the welder drop shipped straight from Campbell Hausfeld and the mask & gloves drop shipped from Lincoln Electric, so I had the welder by last Friday, but no mask or gloves until yesterday. I did get to do about an hour of work last night in the garage and didn't trip the in-outlet breaker welding with .30 flux core wire on level 3. I jumped right in and added an angle iron "guard" on one end of my spinner target. It was more than enough juice to knock out this project.

If you're thinking about getting into this game, the CH model that I bought seems to be a good intro model for tinkering and projects.
