Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

I run a 6.5 Grendel 20" Sabre SS midweight on a Rock River matched reciever. I might suggest if you have the chance to find a SS midweight barrel I would recommend it. The Gill brake will piss off anybody shooting next to you but it's extremely effective at reducing recoil to almost nothing. I hope you reload. Ammunition is hard to find (with the exception of Wolf). Good brass (Lapua, IMHO) will run you about $90 per 100 pieces at Cabelas. Good choice with the Larue mount. I have a spare but I'm bot ready to let it go just yet. I think you'll enjoy this cartridge. Regards, RT

So you need to add a bolt carrier, firing pin, firing pin retention pin, bolt cam,and carrier key and screws to your list. But I could be wrong. Also for the price of that barrel and bolt you can get a custom barrel and bolt to go with it. Just my .02.

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

Go with the Gas Buster charging handle, you will be glad you got it or go with the new Bravo Company gunfighter Mod4/Mod3 Latch.

Your lucky to find the Vltor MUR1 upper recievers. The Larue Tactical and Vltor MUR1 have been In Stock at most places lately. It took me 3 months before mine come in stock at BCM.

Have you found a Forward Free-Float Rail yet? If I were you I would get the <span style="font-weight: bold">14.0"</span> Daniel Defense Lite Rail and the Daniel Defense Low Profile Gas block with it, they go together perfect!
i think Bravo Company USA has them in stock if not Rainier Arms has them. Daniel Defense also makes Flat Dark Earth colored rails but the color is a little darker than the Magpul Flat Dark Earth.

Oh yeah, you might want to get some shorter magazines instead of the 25rd ones if you plan on shooting prone or from a bench, the 25rd mags tend to hit the bench or ground. C-Products makes shorter ones. Actually C-Products and Alexander Arms I think are the only manufacturers of 6.5 Grendel magazines. I heard of people using the 6.8SPC mags for their 6.5 Grendel but I wouldnt chance it.

The Ergo Grip didnt give you the FDE matching bottom palm shelf with your grip? Mine came both FDE. Not black and FDE, I would call and bitch about it.

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

Supposedly there will soon be a new source for 6.5 Grendel mags; read about it today on the 6.5G forum. I expect they will make their announcement at SHOT.

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

Also you could consider the CSS barrel and bolt set, that's what I have and it's a nice Lothar pipe.Just got mine and have only sent 20 rds down it but it seems so far to be very accurate.Real load developement will have to wait until this white ground debris is gone.Longrange30 that's a SWEET looking rifle you got there.

</div></div>If you are going to be using a silencer the gas buster helps keep blowback out of your face, but the BCM gunfighter seems to mainline it straight to your eyes. If you are not going to be using a silencer there is no real need to spend the money on the gas buster(although it does help some under heavy firing) . If you want the gasbuster latch feel you can just buy the latch. Other than throwing gases right in your eyes(under suppressed fire) the BCM CH's are really nice.

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

i have changed my mind about the barrel i now want a .223 barrel. a heavy barrel. fluted or non. i think it is between the jp supermatch and lilja barrels. what do you guys think?

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

You are making a very big mistake going to the .223 from the 6.5 Grendel.
Why in the world would you change your mind? The only reason i could think of is the lack of factory ammo and the need to reload for it (meaning you do not reload). Thats the only reason I could think of.
I could see if you did not reload, it would be pretty hard to keep up on ammunition for the 6.5 Grendel but thats the whole reason why I got into reloading in the first place. I didnt start to reload until I built my grendel and realized I should have been reloading years ago! Now I cant get enough of it!

To each is own I guess. .223 ammo is easy to get and everybody and their brother has a .223 AR-15 build these days. Try something different!

I was building a 50BMG but I changed my mind and im building a .22cal. instead! WTF

By the way, if you are going with the .223 there are some better bbl manufacturers out there besides lilja and jpsupermatch. You wont hear of to many guys with those barrels on their AR. Go with Krieger, White Oak, Compass Lake or Lothar Walther to name a few.

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

If you shoot any kind of volume you will go broke quick buying factory match ammo. You might consider getting into reloading. The equipment pays for itself fairly quickly and then you start saving money and make whatever load you want.

Re: 6.5 grendel build in process...

BLAH, look at Wolf Gold and Hornady 6.5 Grendel. They are both making match quality (Wolf Gold reported to be 1/2 MOA capable), and are reasonable priced, especially compared to other Match Grade ammo...

Don't give up on the Grendel and go second rate. The factory ammo in the Grendel is what makes it shine above any wildcats in the AR platform...
