The concept is sound, the pick of organization needs to be adjusted though.
Meh.....i am not much of a fan of forcing anyone to join anything.
If they choose to, that’s fantastic. If not, you are excluding people that you could otherwise have on your side of a political issue. And for what? Open the doors, share the knowlege and passion. That will pay way more dividends than requiring a membership to whichever org will. Make them a new shooter. Maybe encourage membership, instead of requiring it.
I put a lot of time and effort into helping my gun club. If they required me to be a member of anything in order to be a member, i’d bow out. I help shooters, i help maintain the grounds and equipment, i open the range mulitiple times a year, and help run the fundraising efforts. The club is definately better off with me as a member than without.
There are a lot of people like me out there. If you open yourself (and your club) to them, i think more often than not, you’d come out ahead.
I guess you make a solid point. It is hard to argue with you if you are actually a contributing member of the community.
That being said, our community as a whole is far too willing to just sit back watch while all this gun-grabbing nonsense is going on. Maybe making you sign up for this or that organization is missing the point. Perhaps just proving that you have contributed to the fight in some tangible manner would be acceptable? I think that’s what the NRA requirement is all about at its root. Maybe make it a second year requirement?
Ill be frank, if someone is unwilling to contribute the cost of a single box of ammo to the cause, then they can join some other range as far as I’m concerned. The battle is on, and we can’t have anyone sitting on the sidelines.
Just not the NRA. I’ve watched them do so much shady shit through the years, i figured out they are definately not on the side of the american gun owner. They’ll do ANYTHING for a buck. And selling out their members is always on the table.
as some have listed above, there are a LOT of great organizations out there worth putting your money into. That isnt wasted. As far as i am concerned, Giving money to the nra is like donating to bill, hillary, obama,or any of the others.

I feel bad for you guys that are forced to buy an NRA membership just to join a range. Luckily I have my own 170yd range in my backyard. And the local 500yd range doesnt require a membership of any kind.

Life member of the NRA that organization helped me and many more kids by providing rifles and ammunition at a reasonable price for my instructor (WW2 combat veteran) who did it from his heart at no cost to us. Also in high school he headed up shot gun club he alone made sure we had the resources to reload shells in school (two kegs powder, shot, wads,and primers . Not a fan of Wayne but a lot of misinformation (fake news) has done its intended purpose.
Not all is wrong but very twisted. Be careful who you support but support the ones that you think can keep the fight on. As stated above in some posts work with your states organizations many work with the NRA (common goals) which has some resources to assist. NRA ILA they are the legislative branch of the NRA good place to start those are the ones that work with your organizations in all of the states. More to come.

NRA needs to concentrate more on the training/education/promoting competition aspects.
Go back to the roots of the org.
Wayne comes across as wooden and a scare monger. Thats unfortunate as thats an arbitrary character thing and substance should matter more.

It would be a big victory for the left to kill the NRA.
Im pulling for its survival but it has to make itself relevant.
If/when the nra dies, it will be via their own hand an no one else's at all.
There's many people who are still fighters and give more than than you can imagine to support the NRA (time and money) my wife might be a bigger supporter than I she's a pistol instructor and 2nd amendment strong supporter. Has probably trained a few thousand (concealed carry) students. Also is in leadership with our state's gun rights organization which works with the NRA and other states organizations. Their is a number of hide members who know her. Out of privacy not giving up her name. I couldn't do what she does (I'm not politically correct) don't give up on the NRA make it better if you are still voting members know who you are voting for? Talk to them they are accessible. Gunny was the real deal on the board (RIP) there's still people there like MAJ. Land that are involved and do things that are what the NRA was intended to.
My outdoor range, Parma, Idaho, received grants from the NRA...They do much more than just fight legal battles... I also rec'd my marksman ship training from NRA instructors many years ago...Yes, time for a change and clean house at the top, but the NRA provides countless benefits to the shooting public and military... JSNS
But the NRA bankrolled Heller vs D.C. and many other court challenges...Without them you would have probably already lost you 2nd Amendment rights... JSNS
