Well you read it, is it possible? I'm looking for a base class rimfire me and my 10yr old son can share at a match. The only viable option I've really seen is the ruger RPRR which would fit the bill perfectly if I wasnt so concerned with the spotty barrel performance. Any thoughts or ideas? I really don't want to drop the coin on multiple guns currently so yall dont worry about that option ?

Tikka T1x factory will do just fine with decent glass.

The only thing that you might want to consider is length of pull. It's not easily adjustable during a match on the Bravo.
You're allowed to modify your stock and remain in base class. Just not allowed to add an ARCA rail or make it stiffer.

Assuming he has a shorter length of pull than you, you will have to accommodate his length. As too long of a LOP is no-Bueno. Instead, you can use the sorter LOP, just hold it off your shoulder a bit. My girlfriend and I share a rifle. It's an inch short for me, but I still make my hits.
This is what I'm going to do, set it up for him and make due until I can get a 2nd gun

Great question OP. My solution to this was to size the rifle properly to him. Having more experience behind a variety of rifles, it is easier for me to manipulate one with too short a LOP than it is for him to struggle with one that is too long. I'd rather fit him properly than halfass fit us both. We've since each got our own and he prefers the MKII.
I have a MKii FV-SR and it is a real shooter. I love shooting with CZs as they can't stand being out shot by a Savage.
Savage b22 precision is the only other gun besides the rprr I can think of that would leave you in base class with money for a scope.. maybe the cz at-one, but I don’t remember it’s price..
just checked.. cz msrp is $660, savage msrp is $600. Cz typically has a better reputation for accuracy, but I constantly hear about savages that shoot great, and this one comes with a chassis.
... my 13year old and I shoot the same gun just fine, but my 11yr son has a difficult time with the same gun. Problem is seeing through the scope.. his eye just doesn’t line up in the right place. Your definitely gonna want something fully adjustable.

My 10 year old, 15 year old, and I all shoot the same Kidd 10/22 in a magpul stock. I know "Hey, that's not a base class rifle!" I mention this only to say that you can get one rifle that is set up so that it is shootable by a range of shooters. Set it up for the smallest shooter. If you really need it, wear one of those recoil pads for some extra lop.
Then again, is there a reason to stay in base class? With one gun and 2 shooters, you've got lots of budget- at least relative to buying 2 guns.

If you're in it for prize drawings, then yes base class could be rewarding. We have multiple rimfire matches nearby, and none of them offer any prizes. $10-20 entry fee and just have fun shooting.
I was a new shooter this year, started shooting in June. My first rifle was a Tikka T1X in a KRG Bravo. Instantly bumped me to Open Class. But I enjoyed shooting it. My time / enjoyment / skill building, is worth much more than trying to get a prize drawing every month. At the end of the day you're really only competing with yourself. Someone else's ability to hit a shot, doesn't have any affect on you hitting or missing.
The new KRG 10/22 bravo will have a short LOP with a quick adjustment. I plan on running that with my daughter. The Kidd barrel and bolt provides pretty good accuracy. Will not be a production set up, but I am just out to have some fun.

I can recommend the Ruger American as that is what my son shoots with a Hawke subsonic bdc on top and prime ammo. He got 276/500 on the February nrl22 cof to top the juniors at our club. That being said the t1x is awesome both stock and in a bravo.
I agree, the tikka T1x is definitely the one I will be going with for this project. And as badly as I want this to not turn into a 2 gun race it looks like I may just not have a choice, lol! Trying to find something that will work for both of us is proving to be a lesson in futility. So i'm assuming by your choice above you prefer the 16.5" barrel model over the longer options on the t1x?I vote for the Tikka T1X

I don't understand the question. If it's how far out he has taken it, then that would be 125 yards. I don't have group info for that. He hits really well out to 100 on steel as in the match.
It is the ruger American Rimfire standard with 22"bbl. We put a riser on to bring the weld up. Even the high comb option wasn't quite enough. We went with a velcro tactical model and I have heard good things about the kydex like Matthew's fabrication.
None of us early adopters of the Tikka had the choice of a 16.5" barrel. We all bought the 20". If you're shooting NRL22, get a 16.5". Extra length doesn't buy you anything. If I had optimal choice of barrel length, it'd be 18", but between 16.5 and 20, definitely 16.5"
Only the 20" was available when I purchased. I prefer the aesthetic of the 16" but you get a little more forward weight with the 20" and the barrels are light. Either would work. The 16" may have an advantage moving in and out of barricades but that's not a huge concern as there just aren't that many barricades where you need the short length. I did go with a 18" barrel w/ my Vudoo but it's a very heavy barrel profile. 13.5 lbs. heavy. Total weight.
Edit: NOT a 16" Vudoo barrel, 18".

What?? Where are you guys finding the 16”? I ordered a t1x yesterday and my lgs had to try a few places to find the 20” in stock but found no mention of the 16”.
Well that makes me feel better with whatever choice I end up going with. The ultimate goal after shooting base class for a while is to drop the t1x into an MPA chassis to mimic my large rifle for a trainer and you can get weight kits for them so I could work around the lighter barrelOnly the 20" was available when I purchased. For the op, it sounds like you are leaning towards the Tikka.
You may want to consider a second smaller gun for your son. A couple hundred plus another hundred for a scope and you’ll have a gun that fits your son properly, is accurate enough for as good as a ten year old will shoot, and that won’t suck too bad when he outgrows it in a couple years..
personally, as I’m getting a new gun for myself and older son, I’m going to re-fit my Savage mkii g for my younger son.. he’s not going to be competing in anything so may just go back to the iron sights for awhile. If I have to take some off the stock, it’s not a huge deal, since the gun was pretty cheap to start. When he outgrows it, I’ll put it away till it’s time for grandkids..

Just when I thought I had my mind made up. I have been trying to put together my first 22 competition rifle for NRL22 as well. I really like the idea of Base Class so was looking at the Tikka T1X, CZ457 AT-One, or the CZ 457 Pro Varmint Suppressor Ready. I understand this is somewhat a Ford vs Chevy deal, but would love to hear your thoughts on both.

I own a CZ and a Savage Mk2 and I LOVE both. NO the savage is not the same aesthetically or feel wise, but my savage is just as, if not more accurate.
I bought my FVSR on sale for $250 out the door. Put a used Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x on it for $300, and Put it in a Boyds AT-One stock for $250 with the upgrade palm swell and fore end. Sooooo I'm at $800 total for a legit setup.

You can't change the stock and be in base class. So it's MSRP of a sold setup. So unless they sell a MKII in an AtOne as a factory option, you can't piece together your own rifle for NRL22 base.
