Number of Posts went way down

I'm guessing that some of the really old posts didn't make it through the move across cyber abyss...
I am relatively new to the site (a year and a half), and it seems that I've still got all mine.

Damn, Adam!!! I was a little stumped that I lost around 400+, but 3k...OUCH!!!!
I know that LL mentioned in another thread that it was necessary to "prune" some of the old threads and that's likely what happened in terms of folks "losing" posts. He also indicated that it isn't anything that will get fixed unless it just happens to be something easy that just jumps out at him. I'm not sweating it. I'd like to have some of the info lost back, but I'm just chalking it up to growing pains to keep the site up and running efficiently/effectively...no big deal.
unless posting something for sale and needing to show 100, what's the big deal? is it a post count envy thing?

if you notice, you lost your "rank" too. i thought that to be a pretty neat novelty.
the new format is definately more advanced, so much so that previous info may be in limbo out there somewhere ready to be extracted or coming back online or retrieved with pressing the right "button"

I lost quite a few, I don't really care other than being kicked down under a hundred that might hurt Marketplace activity.
It could just be that the counters are off. In the vBulletin admincp, there's a function that can be run to update everyone's post counts. I'm sure when the dust has settled Frank will get it sorted out.

Predator, It's not all about YOU. And if a person has been blasted back down to <100 posts, it's a very big deal.
Also, post count is not about "envy" Whether we like it or not, a higher post count causes ppl to regard the poster more favorably, and often enough, their questions will receive more attention and conversation.
And YES this issue requires the Admin's attention. If he wants to continue to have a profitable site, it needs to function properly. Don't act like this is the first migration ever done on a bulletin board, mmkay? I, for one, have seen other migrations that did not lose post counts OR have the search function grenaded like this migration.

I think your post count is important. It shows your dedication and contribution to the community at this site. Granted some have padded their count just to peddle their tacticool gear, but overall it was earned.

No way to address it this widespread and honestly I have no idea why the pruning of post effected the users ?
Might have been a glitch in the indexing, but honestly it should not have done it.
At the end of the day, there is no way for "me" to know what a person's post count was, or will I go in and manually change 79,000 members.

I don't think it was that huge of a deal except for some of us who have been here a long time and suddenly find ourselves below that 100 post threshold. I have never posted that much, unless I really had something to contribute, but I am getting back to being more active and shooting again.
Frank, thanks for taking care of a few of us and finally making the move to vBulletin. I'm sure everyone will eventually figure this move out, because it was definitely needed.

Frank, in the Admin CP -> Maintenance -> General Update Tools you'll see an option called "Update Post Counts".
If you haven't run it already, give it a go; it might just placate people who are complaining about their post counts being off (if the posts are still actually there but the counts are off).

I actually assume that's what caused the big change. Most of us who lost posts, are probably seeing the effects of losing the pre-2008 posts that disappeared a few years ago, that the new board has no way of accounting for.

Simple solution: Give me admin access and I will go in and change the posts count manually for the small fee of 1 dollar per change. Have all members donate 1 dollar who want their post count updated. Problem solved.
That is what caused it, it happened after I did that, which is why there was a delay in people seeing the effects. Apparently vB saw the posts different than UBB
Ah bummer. I was unaware that at some point in the past there was some loss/pruning of pre-2008 posts. Oh well, guess people are going to have to post more if they want to recoup their illustrious post counts.
I totally agree. The site was quite ponderous at best as of late. The new site is far better. I honestly would like the post issue corrected,but,we are all affected. At least now it doesn't take forever to load.
Not to have you chasing your tail, but if the post count doesn't go up for certain forums when a post is made it would screw up when updating post counts. A forum or two may be set that way? Probably just a difference between UBB and vB
I've seen this happen on other forums that went to a newer forum format. Let's face the facts... forum software is about as reliable as operating systems (think dark ages). Go to another newer system/upgrade and things are going to get screwed up. I bet lowlight can't wait till they start charging for all the updates that are going to come along. If forum software we're cars we'd be walking a lot.

The only "effect" this has on me is the future ability to sell/trade, and remain within the site protocol. Personally, my post count has been reduced to 30, and , according to the site protocol, I can now no longer sell or trade items. I could care less what my post count is.... EXCEPT for the result it has on my earned privledge to sell items. I have been a member here since 2006, and had enough quality posts (until several days ago) to earn the right to sell, buy or trade. Of course, you have no way to know the exact number of posts I had.....unless you are willing to take my word for it, or apply a reasonable approach to the problem.

Same thing happened to me . I had well over a hundred post now down to 62. Member since 2009.Guess i lost my right to sell.

Bummer, but not fatal. I am sure this is a PITA for the admins. I am not much of a computer guy, so learning the ins and outs of the new format is a PITA for me. Whatever, life goes on... Good news is all my guns still work the same...

Just got over 100 a couple days ago 5 years plus member.
Lost 50%. Its really not about the number of posts so much as the limitations put in
a number of areas to post - I'm bummed because I just reached the limitation to
post in specific areas and got set back 49 Plus additional posts.
this had occurred to me 3 times over 5 years.....The Horror
