i know your get what you pay for (yes another one of those threads) im wanting to put a nv scope on a 22. max range i need is 150 yds. what would your recomendations be. i looked at the atn 350 but haven't read much good about atn period. basically i want to know the cheapest scope i can buy and accomplish this goal

or am i better off with a laser designator on a regular scope?

Re: nv scope recomendations

it would help to know your budget. atn is not the greatest by far but it does work. if you used a good ir light 150 is possible but the resolution just isnt gonna be there. if its in your budget i would look for a pvs-4 or possibly one of the pulsar digisights. you can generally pick these up for $1200 -$1500 and the performance will blow the atn stuff away. if your budget is in the 2k or so a vey good pvs-14 gen3 can be had if you look around. the versatility of it far beats any other system. i have had great success out of mine coupled up to a day optic out to 400yds.

If it is all about "lowest price," then get a PVS-4 (with GEN II) intensifier and use a LUNA ELIR 90 mW IR illuminator as needed.

The PVS-4 has aiming reticle modules that can be swapped / changed; and can be upgraded to a GEN III intensifier tube later when you have more $$$.

PVS-4 GEN II, ~$1,200 (used)
LUNA ELIR 90 mW, ~$350 (new)

Otherwise, your most versatile set-up is to do a base purchase on a PVS-14, which you can do one of two things with: (1) mount the PVS-14 to your head and mount a laser designator / aimer to your rifle, or (2) mount the PVS-14 on your rifle with an EOTECH or other holographic aiming device in front.

Scenario 1:
PVS-14, $3,500
Lasermax UNI-IR Class 1, $330
Norotos Face Mask Mount System for NVG, $400
Accessory Rail Adapter (replace 10/22 barrel band), $30

Scenario 2:
PVS-14, $3,500
QD Mount, $150
Eotech 512 w/ NV, $400
Picatinny Rail Adapter (Receiver Mount), $30

All the prices above are ROM for new. Used equipment will cost less.

gen 3 tubes are rated for 10,000hrs which means a used one is gonna have lots of life in it. you just need to be careful and know what you are getting. gen1 and 2 tubes obviously have a much lower life expec on the tube.
