Night Vision NV scopes recommendations

Re: NV scopes recommendations

From what I've come up with the most versitile choice for you would be the PVS-14 head mounted and use a NV compatable optic like a T-1 or Eotech. And eventually you'll probably want an illuminator as well.

Re: NV scopes recommendations

PVS-14 head mounted with a IR Class 1 laser would be most versatile for the ranges you're talking about.

A bit more money might lend to a M845 2.5x Gen 2SHP on your gun and a PVS-14 on your head. Scan for targets with your melon mounted 14 and flip up to go to your rifle scope, or just use the IR laser. Multitude of versatility with this setup.

Re: NV scopes recommendations

While a Pvs and a laser are very versatile, making hits at 200 yards on a fox sized target or coyote can be difficult. If I was looking for something just to varmint hunt with I would look hard at a d-series scope. A 740 or 760 works very well on dogs. The extra magnification makes it much easier to make hits at 200 yards. Longest hit on a smaller animal for me with my 760 was 252 yards on a coon under a feeder.

A good ir illuminator is also very useful to light there eyes up just like you would using a spotlight.

This mirrors my experience. 1X Aimpoint or Eotech is difficult enough on a dog at 200 yards in daylight with a 2 moa or bigger aiming point.
PVS-14 and a 2 plus moa laser dot at night is more difficult on a dog sized target. D760 with a L3 tube is hard to beat.

Re: NV scopes recommendations

Agreed,Not to mention the 1X Night Vision devices seem to me like negative -1.5x,that's what I see anyway,Or how Little I see LOL..

One thing I have noticed with these optics D760,RAPTOR4x-6x and AQUILA6x weapons scopes is the PARALAX is Not allways properly set,These are a PITA to set correctly I have been told,I have seen 2 MIL issue at 100 yards without the eyecup's when checking for paralax with a weapons Mounted LASER and Weapons mounted Night Vision,I would check all my weapons mounted optics to Know your limitaions.

I did some field testing with PVS-4's(blast from my past) and they had ZERO issue with PARALAX and there Old beaters to Boot, the field of View and Large Image box are Realy Nice as you all know when its Dark we dont have the same Prorifrial Vision of the other eye like day time so No quick look around or use your non scopes eye(Both eye Open) to find a Moveing target or a Non moveing target for that matter, large IMAGE/Field of View are a Plus all the way useing Night Vision weapons scopes.

I think a Gen3 PVS4A may be the ticket for me and (WMNV)(weapons mounted night vision),PVS4's "CAT LENS" Have a better spectrum and FOCUS ability with IR Illumination that The others mentioned cant Focus with as well,Ever Notice you focus without IR light and then Flood the Target AO and your IMAGE is Fuzzy and needs Focus ajustment again? Not noticable to me with a PVS4 in the heat of the Moment..

Re: NV scopes recommendations

If you want a scope and not a clip on, I found a PVS-4 for under 2k, (1,580). It has a 5.56 and 7.62 reticles with a BDC for Nato rounds. It's gen 2 but you can replace the tube with gen 3 if you want. Maybe not as high speed and a little heavy. But good out to 200 yds. Ebay is usualy my first stop for tactical/ shooting gear.

My experience with Coyotes is with an Aimpoint M2, PVS-14, and a Torch Illumination. 100yds is about my limit on a small target, unless they are in the wide open. The pvs-14 is the most versatile, but when I get enough scratch together I will get a gen 2 or 3 4x scope and a peq-2. Two tools two different types of deployment.
