So, I’m putting together a new gun for next year. I want to try and stay production legal so my buddies and I can directly compete at locals.

The NX8 is newer and has less reviews, a 50mm objective, less mag, and a 30mm tube. But it’s a NF, so I don’t think I’ll be giving up much despite these deficiencies.

Any direct experience or recommendations?

While I agree that the XTR is sweet, their marketing group missed the mark by $39 on the MSRP to keep it production legal. Another testament as to how dumb this class is and begs the question “why am considering a build to stay legal in a class that gets no credit”

I like to shoot against people who don’t send thousands of practice rounds a year is the answer lol

I would go NX8, night force has top of the line quality control...Athlon Cronus seems to be a good scope for the coin, but from what I’ve seen and here the quality control is hit or miss.

I have to admit, I didnt notice the MSRP was too high.

It's entirely possible that Production division simply isnt in their radar, but I'm going to drop a line and bring it to their attention.

I dont have a nx8 but an nxs 8-32x56 and just bought a cronus btr. The btr to me is clearer, better eye box and optically better to my old eyes but mechanically the nightforce is better with turrets and toughness. The
cronus will do all i want and more for steel and targets but if i had to drag it thru the mud and had to have it work nightforce hands down winner.

The Cronus, or to be current - the next gen Cronus BTR, has been improved over time, and the best improvement to me has been the turrets feel.

Now if Athlon would only bring back the "all .2 mil reticle" with a center dot, or slightly thinner center cross, it'd be more awesome. Like most all of the top Co's have done already. I would have kept mine.....

I know that Brownells MPO set their MSRP price specifically so that it makes it easier to get a rig set up for the production division. I have not seen their 5-25x56, but the 3-18x50 model is very nice. At $1k, it is very competitive with anything this side of $2k.

I have zero experience with the NF NX8, but I have owned an Atacr F1 from NF, and a Cronus BTR from Athlon. For the prices that one could get a Cronus BTR for, they are a lot of scope for the money IMO! As others have stated though, if you want great turrets, and a scope built tank tough- I’d go NF. For everything else though, the Cronus BTR takes it.

Contact Doug at cameraland any way u go. I've had both, sold the cronus. Value will be hard to beat with cronus. Better glass, more magnification, less weight all favored by nx8. So if u have the coin for a nx8, it's a fantastic scope and I'd choose it over the cronus. If u want to save about 700 and still have a decent scope pick the cronus
