I was watching the NY Yankees play Wednesday night and noticed in the 7th inning, they played an organ version of the song " God Bless America". I thought it was strange, because they have been playing the Kate Smith"s version for years.

I thought no big thing, and continued to watch....
Thursdays game was the same thing..
And this morning I see this, They stopped playing that version because of an allegation of racism against the singer.

Im so glad Im a Diehard RedSox Fan!!!

Maaaaannn, Ive was a fan of the Bronx Bombers forever. then Steinbrenner moved them out of 'The House That Ruth Built'.

Thats when I finally lost interest in pro sports.

Virginia Cavaliers National Basketball Champions.

Apparently they are now such SJW fanatics that they are trying to erase someone out of history for 100 years ago making a song in satire as well as a mentioning there might be watermelons in heaven?

Maggot. I too was a big NNY fan growing up. After Steinbrenner fired Billy M for the 4th time, I said I had enough of that team. The fact that they tore down the house that Ruth built affirmed things for me.

For years, baseball's New York Yankees and hockey's Philadelphia Flyers have played singer Kate Smith's famous rendition of "God Bless America" during games.
But those long-time traditions have been halted over allegations that other songs performed by Smith -- one of America's biggest singing stars during the early 20th century -- are racist.
Smith is closely tied to the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers because she performed "God Bless America" before Flyers games in the 1970s. A year after her 1986 death, the team erected a statue in her honor outside of its arena.
Now the team won't play her version of the song during games and will cover up her statue.
"We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization," the Flyers said in a statement to CNN.
"As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith's recording of 'God Bless America' from our library and covering up the statue that stands outside of our arena."
The Yankees said the team also was no longer playing Smith's iconic 1939 version of the song. It had been a fixture at games since the September 11, 2001, attacks, the team said. It got pulled three games into the season on April 1.
The controversial songs
One of them is her 1931 rendition of "That's Why Darkies Were Born," which has lyrics that read:
"Someone had to pick the cotton,
Someone had to plant the corn,
Someone had to slave and be able to sing,
That's why darkies were born"

The other is her 1933 recording, "Pickaninny Heaven," which asks "colored children" living in an orphanage to dream about a magical place "great big watermelons."
In a statement, the Yankees said they had "been made aware of a recording that had been previously unknown to us and decided to immediately and carefully review this new information. The Yankees take social, racial and cultural insensitivities very seriously. And while no final conclusions have been made, we are erring on the side of sensitivity."
Her version of the song has been replaced with other versions.

Looks like the Flyers are a POS also! I still cant believe a 1933 song would piss people off.

I wonder what it feels like to be that weak where something like that offends you. There ancestors must be proud!

Applying today's standards on the past . Ok so why don't we address Jesse Jackson's call for the murder of white's in the early seventies . Bueller . Beuller .
Hilary has made many a racist gaffe and more crickets . How about boycotting every African American entertainer that's ever used the N word .
My wife was the supervisor of a day care for about ten years . Seeing all of those innocent faces I used to think man if the adults could just keep their fuckin mouths shut there would be no racial predjudices in a generation . Naive , Idealistic yeah but . Racism seems more and more to me a tool to be used to drive a narrative . Please don't mistake this for dismissing real predjudice .

Seems to me that the New York Yankees should ban themselves?

They refused almost longer than any other team to allow black players to join their roster.

And in 1945... were very pro-segregation! As late as 1987, their general manager (Campanos or something) said "Blacks did not have the capacity to be a coach or general manager" (I paraphrase.)

And how about this gem:

https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2015/01/1...945-pro-segregation-letter-is-up-for-auction/

The Yankees, therefore, are a racist and pro-segregation organization and must, therefore, ban themselves.

Cheers,
