We just passed through Cheyenne and this is in no way an exaggeration.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I'm guessing the wind is 15-20 MPH (???) with gusts up in the mid 20s. It actually rocked my parked car in the parking lot just now. I'm going to have to get the wind dope on this gun sewn up tight in the next 2 days or rack up a lot of zeros.

Also some a$$hole flicked a cigarette near the oil rigs a few hours ago and so there's a brush fire. Hopefully it doesn't go far.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Does anyone have a good list of what to bring to a match like this? I have tried searching but the Internet is out at my house and searching on my phone is a little difficult.

Also, I have 6 round mags for my rifle. How many mags should I bring to the Cup? I have 2 but am wondering if I need to buy some more this week.

Read through this carefully and it should give you a good idea of what you will need.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Frank was having a problem finding the Trainup spot. I am on wagon hound road and I followed it back to where the GPS said, but all that's out here are a bunch of cows and 2 porta potties. Road splits shortly after that into some kind of pit or mine. Is that correct spot?

I would email Zac with your request now. I do not think he will be fulfilling such a request at the start of the match.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I hope they are some what accomodating to us guys that are car pooling! Looks to me that the stages are a couple miles apart.
Would have been nice to know we could request squads ahead of time..must have missed it if it was posted.

I would bring Some sort of shooting sticks, and maybe a tall bipod. Binos will be really important for finding targets hidden in sage brush quickly. I would have a rangefinder capable of 1200+ I wouldn't be to worried about a shooting mat.. it looks like you will be makeing use of the land! Throw in a sling, tools for minor rifle repairs, maybe knee and elbow pads for lying in the rocks? Eye and ear pro of course. Oh and maybe a cleaning kit for when the 40 mph winds fill your barrel full of sand! Lots of paper and pens to draw range maps and take notes. Thats about all your going to find in my pack. Hope that helps

Yes the spot with the porta potties is the correct spot.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

The google placemark for the meeting place for the trainup is correct. Meet there at 0800 Monday morning if you are in the trainup.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Any GPS cord. available for the demo day?</div></div>

In a few minutes I will post the final match booklet PDF with the final map. The demo/sight-in area is the same location as the trainup meeting place I posted earlier.

I posted the procedure to get on the same group last week. The cutoff for group requests is Monday morning at 0800 MDT, after which point I will have made the final shooter number list.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Zak,I Robert Aiken will be traveling with Chris Hunter in same vehicle if we can be on same squad...</div></div>
I cannot stress strongly enough how important it is and will be at the match to follow instructions. PS this is an invalid squad request.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Oh and if it were me I would have enough mag capacity for a 20 round stage?? I Have needed that many in the past.</div></div>
The guy who said to read the PDF was right on the money. There is no stage where you <span style="font-style: italic">could</span> shoot more than 20 rifle rounds period.

We'll have signs to turn onto Wagon Hound Rd (if 40+ mph winds don't rip them off), and signs to the sign-in area.

See you on Wed. Just everyone hope the range doesn't catch fire...

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

By the way and just to be clear to everyone-- you are not allowed to wander around the property looking for targets or shooting areas or whatever. This is for safety and fairness.

By Wed afternoon the Staging Area signs will be up if you want to know exactly where those are so you can report on-time on Thursday morning. (We're not putting them up now so they don't blow away in the interim.)

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Guys it is pretty simple, straight up Wagon Hound to the Porta-Johns for the train up, As Zak said there will be signs, but as an example, yesterday in front of the porta johns on the fence I put up the 8 ft SH Banner using mechanics wire to the T Posts / fences posts, today the banner was down because the 40+ mph winds want to tear this stuff up...

The Tents for Wednesday are in a protected area just below the road so once that is up, the main meeting place will be very easy to see and park at, as well should be fairly well sheltered from the wind.

We'll make sure everyone is on the same sheet of music.

There are a lot of targets, and a lot of areas so like Zak also mentioned please don't wandering on the property trying to figure out where we are shooting from. It's a safety issue and fairness issue... there are no secrets and everyone will have the same opportunities to find and engage the targets, your skill is the only thing that will separate you from the next guy, not seeing a piece of steel 3 days before hand. We will allow everyone more than enough time to find, range and engage.

It has shaped up nicely, plenty of targets from 100 to 1200 yards to shoot, so just relax and follow the instructions as presented.

Thanks

Robert, You should have sent your request via email to [email protected] I belive that is what he was asking for.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

The rifle targets you will be shooting are of the type on the last page of the handout (see PDF) -- generously provided by AA Targets. This is what you will be looking for out in the terrain. They will not be painted any particular color, but the plates will be more or less dark (ie not white).

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Just a guess, looking at the map point on the program:

N 42*38.333'
W 105*27.833'

I might be a tad off, but I betcha I can find a big white tent from there.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I believe the weather is calling for high 90's with a chance of wind... I mean, it's Wyoming....how bad can the wind get?

See you all at the shooters meeting tonight!

If there was one 338 in the top 10 I would be really surprised. Good try on trying to advertise for yourself though.
