Down at SHOT and nothing new to report at the DT booth as it pertains to the SRS or Covert platforms. DT will have a new chassis system for the Remington 700. The new Bullpup semi looks promising, but is still over a year out.
No way! A rem 700 chassis? When? Bullpup? come on man we need deets stat!
Anyone know what kind of coating is inside the action of the Covert?

If you're talking about the inside of the receiver its anodized.......there may be some paint in newer ones but the old ones were just anodized

Besides this, is there anything else I need to do (cleaning, oiling??) before I get to shoot my SRS-A1? What about "breaking-in the barrel"?
Glad to hear this! Exactly what I was planning on doing : )It's been test fired, so just mount and level your scope. Then, get your 100 yard zero dialed in and start punching steel at 500 or longer as your cartridge will allow. You'll be amazed and pleased. Enjoy and clean the barrel sparingly when accuracy fades. Get bore guide and BoreTech cleaning supplies (no brushes). Lube and clean bolt and bolt face regularly, but let your barrel just do it's job as long as your groups are tight! Good Shooting! Have fun and be sure the share your prize with others at the range.
you say no brushes......... but which are you speaking of, cause i asked about the cleaning and hole rifle trigger assembly break down. so when i ordered the a1 i ordered everything dta had to offer from the company. so i have to the hole field cleaning kit, and brushes came with it. also i was told difference, about cleaning the bolt and barrel. now im not saying anyone is wrong or right..... but id def like to strip it down properly. if u don't mind you willing or know of someone to make a video of all it. thank you, any ideas im all very open too, just don't want to f**ck anything upIt's been test fired, so just mount and level your scope. Would recommend a smaller caliber snake than your barrel. I've gotten some of the same caliber snakes caught in my barrel. A real pain to get out. I don't put anything down the barrel except when cleaning. BoreTech products are great. I use their BoreTech Eliminator, but thinking about just switching to their carbon remover only and see how that works. I only use the brass-free jags-again 1 caliber smaller, so I can use more patch to ruin down the barrel. Their one piece cleaning roods are great. Put lots of cleaner on the first patch and run it slowly down the barrel. Remove the patch a the muzzle and withdraw the rod carefully. Let sit rofor 30 seconds or so then. run several dry patches down the barrel until they come out clean. Usually 5-6 patches. Put last on jag with a few drops of Kranoil. Use 20 ga. shotgun mop to dry chamber, then clean a lube bolt. Use grease on lugs and some Kranoil on bolt face and swab with Q-tip. DONE!Glad to hear this! Exactly what I was planning on doing : )
Instead of a cleaning rod I was thinking of using a BoreSnake. Any thoughts on that? Pros & Cons??
If I ordered an SRS-A1 today, anyone have any idea on shipping times?
I'm in the same boat as you with an early Gen 1 rifle. Nick has said that some of the A1 parts will be available for guys like us as upgrades, namely the slim handguard and buttpad, but not for a while. I think they plan to fill all the backorders first and catch up on production. If we want the monopod or the adjustable cheekpiece, that's going to require sending our receivers in to get milled.

Finally completed my cheek pad and I'm pretty happy with it. I initially ordered a couple of KICK-EEZ pads that were ok but then I ordered a couple of 3" x 6" customizable GOD'A GRIP pads and loved the textured ones. Once I had the right thickness for my setup, 3/16 inch thick, I cut the pad and did a pretty good job but I had to make it perfect and screwed it up in the process...should have left it at pretty good! D'oh! I was pissed because it takes a minimum 2 weeks to get anything to me in the mail and I work 14hrs a day wrestling bad guys so I don't have a lot of time for arts and crafts. I didn't want to mess up anymore pads so I contacted Michael Godard and asked if there was anywhere I could get my pattern precision cut and Michael offered to cut it for me which is pictured below. It's not perfect, thicker pads are a bitch to cut, but its pretty damn good! I gotta say that I don't mind not having the A1 now that I have this pad on my Gen 2 but if I had an A1 I would still slap a 1/16 inch thick textured pad on there. Only problem with this is the A1 cheek rest is approx. 7 inches long where as the customizable GOD'A GRIP pads are 6 inches. Not sure if he can get them a little longer if any A1 guys wanted it but it wouldn't hurt to check if so inclined. I'd also like to thank the couple of guys that sent me pics and measurements of their A1 pads which saved me some frustration...thanks!

What's a reasonable usable distance to expect out of the 18" .338 barrel with a suppressor?

Turned out great! I think it looks like a winner and thanks for the link! Did you use the textured or smooth? it kinda looks like the textured in your photo.

Not to be a spoiler but they take the time to develope new stuff which is great but meanwile folks have to wait 4-5 months or longer to get a rifle and over a month to get spare parts and counting! This is starting to wear a little thin with me I mean come on already.
R&D and production are two different beasts and just because you theoretically could tell all of the R&D guys to hop onto the floor and help pump out product, it's often not possible or a complete waste of effort (and money). Commercial companies have to constantly do R&D to stay ahead of the competition and keep their products up to date. Increasing production capacity has a more direct affect on those wait times you're talking about and Nick and Russ have both mentioned that they've invested quite a bit in the recent past to try and put out products faster and make a dent in the unprecedented backlog.
I know what your saying about R&D and I don't have an issue with that in the least, it's a must to stay out ahead. I run a Mfg. Plant and if i pulled this i would loose customers. You have to look ahead and stay ahead of the curve, it's tricky but that's just as important as R&D. If you are unable to meet demand you loose plan and simple. It just seems that things would have eased up by now. I have so much tied up with DT gear it's just getting hard for me to justify going forward and my dealer is starting to feel the crunch as well. I mean you can only say "hang in there" "next week", "only a month out" so many times. Don't get me wrong it's a great system but...it works both ways. I'm glad that folks like SAC makes barrels but other things you are captured with no other avenue not even after market. I know things happen and things take time, it's just very frustrating that's all. The market is changing and other companies are catching up like AI but it is still yet to be seen if they will be able to keep pace as well. Sorry for the rant!
