looking into buying DTA SRS. want to know if anyone has placed a scope w 56mm (or 50mm) bell on this rifle with 40 moa scope base system? will the scope clear the quad rail with butler creek covers? butler creek covers and sun shade??

i saw the pix of the bender and i think that has a 50mm bell?

Anyone have a firing pin break on their SRS yet?

Mine snapped off just above the squared off part yesterday. Any ideas why? Never broke a pin before in any other gun.

Rifle has around 400 rounds through it. Before breaking the pin, every round fired had the typical pin caused cratering; I am not sure that is indicative of anything or not.

I have 800 rounds of 308 and 200 rounds of 338 through mine. No problems as of yet.
Both of my bolts are unbushed and have a decent amount of cratering.

I have a gen1 gun not sure how new yours is.

Give DTA a call - I think they had a batch of firing pins that were out of spec at one point and have replaced broken ones.

Cratering does'nt help but thats usually not the cause. Its metal fatigue, the heat treat process is very difficult to measure on those little guys, out of the thousands of bolts that are out there you rarely hear of snapped firing pins. Call DTA they will take good care of you.

Gen 2 here, but that is what I am thinking as well. The firing pin hole just doesn't look as "clean" as it should really. Looking at the pin itself it looks to be worn a bit more than it should.

I was planning on getting it bushed as some point anyways since it was cratering everything pretty hard. Just a good reason to do it now lol.

Emailed them this morning, hopefully I can get by with just sending in the bolt.

I called them from the range when I broke a pin. I have 2 bolts because I have a 243 and 338. They talked me through over the phone how to switch out the firing pins so I could keep shooting and them sent me a couple of firing pins. Mine is a Gen 1 and I had preordered mine. I would give them a call, would probably be faster as they sent it out quick.

May be a dead horse but after reading 49 pages I only saw one about 30-06. I would "assume" 300 win mag capable magazines would work, or even the .308 without the spacer. I already have a .308 AR-10 so I don't see a reason spend 5-7k on another .308 and .300WM may be overkill if I am just plinking at 1000yds.

Then again, I could ditch the DPMS SASS and get the DTA SRS in .308/.300WM...

LoL, I can plink steel all day at 750 with it so it's not a bad system. I have a SS fixed x16 scope on it and the 1k steel is quite noticeable. I just don't know if I want "another" .308 and I am not to into the "gucci" rounds as I call em. If the ammo aint at Bass Pro it's not really for me.

LMAO! Yeah I bought the DPMS SASS for under 2k new from Bud's in Kentucky, had it at the FFL in 4 days. I wanted an "AR-10" and at that time had no bankroll for anyhting other than aset pricepoint. It's a 1-2 time a month bench rifle. I miss my Rem700 in 30-06, should have never sold it...

Next toy will definately be another bolt action, wether it be a DTA or a GAP, or one of the Surgeon builds. I will do it right this time.

Yeah def cant go wrong with any of them I haven't even shot mine yet still waiting on my glass and my barrel from SAC!!! Patches the guy that started this thread is my buddy and I shot his a bunch and fell in love so I picked one up should be done in a few weeks though!!!!

Any suggestions for scope base for SRS in .260. Don't really like using reducers for the DTA's mount. Also is 20 or 30 moa a better choice. Will be shooting mostly 800-1000 yards.

Any of the good mounts should work fine, I have an AADmount on mine. Love it.

+1 on the AADMOUNT And super easy to deal with!!!! He went out of his way to make sure his new design would fit the saddle of the USO sn3 5-25 Tpal so all I had to do was pay!!!! And looks amazing on the DTA

Back to the cratering, I'm still working in to my new .338 SRS, but when I was testing out loads yesterday, I was getting cratering from even the minimum book load. I had called DTA about it before but they said it was because I was shooting the HOT 300gr. Cor-Bon loads (which is true, 2800 FPS +) and not to mess with it. Should I just live with it, or is it something I should take care of?

By the way, VERY impressed with the SRS. I'm somewhat new to precision shooting, but yesterday, the gun was locked in. Best 3 shot group at 300 yards was .897" edge to edge, minus .338" bringing it to .559". Hands down best group I've shot, though I'll be hard pressed to do it again.

ETA: realized caliper was not square with the holes, remeasured and true spread is .921" edge to edge, .583 center to center.

One other thing, has anyone come up with a better buttpad solution for the SRS? I love the rifle but the pad leaves a lot to be desired as far as fit and comfort.

None in the Phoenix (Mesa) Bass Pro last week. Of all the DTA calibers (and the 6.5 Creedmoor), only .243, .260, .308, .300WM, and .300WSM were on their shelves. Of those on the shelves, none were match loads.

NOPE, they only stock the "vital shock" types for hunting. Hell I can hardly ever find the UMC .45 250rd boxes anymore either.

The cabela's and sportsman's warehouse stores in Utah carry 6.5 creedmoor. I would have thought that Bass Pro would do the same.

Hi all,

Has anyone had any problems with bolt manipulation on the srs? After firing, I almost have to hit the bolt back with a mallet to get it to extract the shell. The bolt's clean and I'm running federal gold match .308. I didn't have this problem when I first got my covert last year, it started sticking when I got the rifle back from DTA after they replaced a bad barrel and a cracked butt pad.

Give them a call. I had sticky bolt during .338LM development that wasn't a result of pressure, but because I was neck sizing brass on a tight chamber. FL sizing all brass fixed that problem.

Thanks to a few helpful guys at our club (and a few 6.5CM rounds downrange from Ty's rig) our family is hooked and our own SRS is on the way. We'll hone our long range skills with the .308 (yeah, I know) and move up as our skills deserve—maybe sooner.

Ok, first day out. Finally got glass on it, but experienced something for first time

DTA SRS .308/.338
PR 5x25 gen ii mildot in a 40 moas DTA mount.

I bore sighted on neighbors house at about 100. Hit zero range hour later. First 5 shots blew out center of target and the tack, one ragged hole. I didn't adjust turrets at all.

Ran my TBAC 30p-1, and only needed .7 up, great 5 shot ragged hole. No azimuth needed. All .308 was Southwest 175.

Swapped to .338, fired, couldn't call shot. Held 1 mil left on center, nailed dead ringer. Input dope and verified. Zero elevation needed. Shooting 250 Bhills.

Just wondering why the variance on .338 in azimuth. This is my first time shooting the rig and I'm frikkin impressed. Also, why no adjustments needed after my rough bore sight? Was I luck or is this chassis that tight?

you bore sighted a locked in, torqued in barrel, then took it out. There is going to be point of impact shift when you do that. Even putting the same barrel back in it. Just like when you put your suppressor on, You changed something so there is a darn good chance of point of impact change.

I have to disagree with the above. If my 6.5 Creed is zeroed in, I can take it out, and put it back in with no POI change. I have so much confidence in this that I will often take the barrel out before a contest with out a second thought. I even watched a video of a guy doing a 25 round dot drill, and taking the barrel out between each dot.

On the different barrels however, each one shoots a different zero. If my 308 is in, my 338 shoots .4 left and 1.2 low. I can dial the change, zero the scope, swap barrels and be right on.

With my can, my 338, 22" 308, and 26.5" 6.5 Creed all shoot .4 low. With my 22" Creed, I am .3, and my 16" 308 has no change.

I worry more about shifts of zero from lot to lot of brass......

I switch mine all the time between 308 and 338.
My rifle is zeroed for the 308. For my 338 it is .6 up and .1 left every time.

Did you read my entire post? I used a nekkid eye, down the bore, on my neighbors truck at roughly 100, to bore site. .308 w/out can was dead on. It surprised the fuck out of me.

I did a swap, back to .308 same results with can on/off, then back to .338, same dope, dead center. I'm certainly glad I have my DTA.

So it sounds like you want something a little less slippery rather than something that spaces your cheek up or out.

There is a product - I think it's called moleskin. It comes in sheets, can be cut with scissors, and possibly glues to the stock. You might want to search for that.

CNC, It would be nice to have a little padding for when I'm shooting my .338 conversion and the shock makes my cheek sting. I wince like a little sissy girl on the inside.

If Tactical Textile is the only option, I'll probably have to get one. Just wondering if there was a more economical option.

I had the same issue especially with sweat here in the humid southern summer so I bought several roles of rubber/neoprene and Pachmayr’s Pac-Skin. The Pac-Skin seemed to work the best, did not allow my sweat to interfere with a cheek weld and did not tear up my face like some other attempts. The adhesive that comes on the Pac-Skin failed almost immediately so I ended up super gluing it after other adhesives also failed. So far I am happy with this solution.
