You are asking a question that is truly impossible to give an honest answer to. There are too many variables. How fast are you driving the bullets, what weight bullets, how fast are you shooting, how often do you clean your weapon, the list goes on.

To give you an estimate,
.308: 10,000+
.300: 2500+/-
.338: 2000+/-

The question I'm asking myself is; How much cost replacement barrels? Not the conversion kit but the barrel itself. From what I've seen you cant re-chamber those barrels and if replacement barrels cost around 1200$ with +-2000 round life, It can get realy $$$$ pretty fast vs a standard one that you can re-chamber and get an extra 2000 shots for a little more then half the price...

You are right, the barrels cant be rechambered, but you can have the barrel extension put on a new barrel by SAC or John Beanland, at which point it costs what ever they charge to chamber thread and mount a barrel.

Thanks, I thought it was some type of metal-aluminum. I don't have a DTA, but was thinking about using the knob on a different rifle...

Anybody know the thread pitch of the knob?

thanks

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Hello all
I know you have all answered my question about converting my SRS to a covert BUT don't forget my SRS is a Gen 1 pin gun....
Can I still get short barrels IE covert, in Gen 1 configuration ?

Then I would get a gen 2 SRS . Then a side question is could I get my gen 1 config barrels changed( shortened) 0r have the extensions changed etc.
thanks in advance

Generation of your chassis has no bearing on the conversion. You are good to go.

Barrels are Universal, extension can be easily changed by you with proper tools or send them in and have the boys take care of ya.

Feel free to PM me if you need any help.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Hi all,

Been looking to get into one of these rifles. I've done a pretty decent amount of research, but I haven't had a chance to really mess with one yet. I have no idea how balance, bolt manipulation, weight, and ergonomics play into the rifle. Does anyone in DFW have one. I'm in Arlington, but I put Fort Worth because no one knows where Arlington is (between Dallas and Fort Worth, the proverbial "butt crack" of the metroplex).

If anyone has a rifle near me that would be willing to meet on a weekend or a mutually agreeable day, I'd really like to get a feel for one of these things before I sell my AI to fund one.

There is no need to change your SRS to a Gen 2. If you want the Covert look, just swap out the hand guard. The Gen 1 indexing pin is located in the receiver and will not be affected by swapping out the hand guard.

DTA makes barrels with both Gen 1 and Gen 2 extensions.

Does any know of a good soft case to take my DTA SRS to and from the range? I have the DTA pelican case but am tired of lugging that big ass case around. Already have a matt so no need for the DTA soft case. Just looking for something that will protect it with scope to and from the range.

DTA has a bazillion Gen 1 extensions, but when you rebarrel, you can use your old extension, so you only need as many as you want caliber changes.

I put the short handguard on my Gen1 SRS, works great.

The DTA Soft Case is as good as it gets for a Soft Case, especially if you want to take and extra caliber conversion to the range with you.

I have a shooting mat and still wouldn't trade my SRS soft case for another one.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I have a question for you guys owning these guns. I have to sell the rifle because last week, I blew the race engine on my 2012 shelby gt500 race car. Its a car built for the track and its going to be a mucho expensive fix, north of $20,000.. I just purchased this amazing rifle and havnt even got to shoot it! im bummed beyond all belief, but my wife said if I want to play with toys, pay for it with my fun money...unfortunately, i need to free up a little to cover it.

My question is, since I just purchased the rifle, and its brand new, what price do you think I should sell if for to get rid of it quick. I dont expect retail obviously, but whats a price point where its reasonable and i can get it sold right away. Thanks.

Here is what I bought:

DTA SRS .338 Lapua w/ monopod
SRS QD barrel brake
Upgraded Aluminum Butt-stock reciever
SRS torq wrench
SRS Cleaning Kit/rod
2 magazines
Laser Cut Pelican Case

S&B PMll 5-25X56 mil-dot
S&B 56mm 2" sunshade
SPUHR 44.4MOA Rings

Atlas Bipod with QD mount

60 Rounds DTA Munitions 300g .338 ammo

All of this is brand new with the box. So can someone give me the price point i should put up as Im going to list it here and others as well. Thanks a lot, total bummer on my side...damn

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

My suggestion, just take a percentage off of the total cost out the door. Look at what you paid, then multiply it by 0.90 or 0.95 and offer it at that reduced rate.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

In my experience racing is an order of magnitude higher cost hobby than shooting. In one good track day you can easily go through a thousand dollars of tires and pads, plus enough on fuel to feed a rifle ammo for a year (if you reload).

If it were me I'd argue, "Every day I spend shooting this gun I'm saving a thousand dollars by not going to the track!" Not to mention that the depreciation on guns is negligible compared to cars.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Just take 10% off the price that you paid for everything new and start there. I'm just guessing but on a package like that your around 9,000.00 so if someone saved 900.00 off the package thats a nice savings. Good luck.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I spent 15 years working on indy cars and watched a lot of dollars disappear. . . I think my gold ring from the 1992 Indy 500 cost about 3 million by the time we finished the month of may. Everyone on the crew got one though so we got the quantity discount.

It has been said that the best way to make a million dollars in racing is to start with 10 million....

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I just confirmed that the barrel specs for the HTI in .375 Cheytac are incorrect on their website. The twist rate should be 1-10.5", not 1-11.5.

They should be correcting it shortly.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

yeah i figured i could probably get atleast 9 for it all? As far as racing, it is a very expensive sport but is my main hobby. Its definitely more expensive than shooting, but i have a few other nice rifles. I just feel i could get back the most for this because of the system and because its brand spanking new. I dont need to sell it, but it would take a nice dent out of the cost to repair the car without having me dip into my rainy day funds. You know, the one the wife doesnt know about!

Seriously though, she keeps asking me how im getting all these weapons, and car parts... im running out of answers quick!

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Old and grey means slow and heavy, not the speed racer I could have been, but still lots of fun to be had.

We are going to be doing a 3K yard shoot with our HTI in 375 in the next week or so and wanted to see if anyone on the Hide wanted to attend and witness what this bad boy can really do???

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Slow and heavy is correct, I feel it every time I step into the ring or cage.

Once we hear the results of the 3000 yard shoot in the USA, then I will offer to replicate it here in Europe and extend the invitation (sometime early next year) to European members as well.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Ewen,
That is a great idea, lets see if DTA USA can beat DTA Europe in a 3K yard shootout! I think us Americans got the upperhand on you good ole boys.

The USA event will take place at the same spot that we shot the 2707 yard video in Tooele Utah, the date of the event will be Tuesday Dec 18th.

Thor21,
PS. Next batch of bolts is two weeks away from being finished and it is quite large and should take care of our backlog.

you know you have something when you get 10 people in a row 2-3 hits a piece at 1100 with your 300wm on a 60 percent IPSC.

the SRS"s just plain freaking shoot, with all the guns i have there is a reason it still goes with me just about everywhere
