Well not to change the subject here but... I got to see first hand and set behind the first A1 that came in to my shooting range/club today. The cheek riser was nice, I like the added rubber coating they put on it but cheek weld was never an issue. I also like the way you can add rails if you want. but the BEST part is the padded butt stock, very cushy and had a kinda tacky feel to it and I like that, will be a welcomed piece for you 338 shooters. All FDE in a 22" 308. The new owner was amazed in the accuracy of his new rig and very happy since it was his first time to shoot a DTA and a bull pup design. All the ammo he had was American Eagle but it still printed about .6-7moa after he got it sighted in, and being his first time shooting one and with all the nerve juice pumping he was very happy then turned to the range owner and ordered a 260 barrel...Knowing he will have to wait a bit but he was happy never the less and has just joined the DTA owners club and now... Hooked! So I'm here to tell you they are comming. I just wish I had my phone with me to take some pic's for you guys but I didn't have it with me....Sorry

Not trying to stir shit here, but I have noticed a fair old price increase on the cost of rifles, parts and accessories this year. Ie: HTI mount has gone up a fair bit.

The HTI mount is completely different from the original SRS scope mount, yes there was an increase in price on that. The increase in rifle cost was taking into account that the A1 forend is now modular and increasing the machining time and more parts has increased the price of the rifle. More machining on the chassis for the cheek riser that everyone was screaming for as well as the cheek piece itself and hardware coupled with machining the skins to accommodate that part has increased time and cost on manufacturing the rifle. Also, there was a lot of time and testing that went into the new butt pad system. It took some work, but I think the boys at DTA have fixed all the issues and are putting out a superior product.

I was referring to a blatant price increase just because we could make a few extra bucks to take advantage of the market. That is not the case here. All of the upgrades that people wanted to see have been addressed and the new A1 is a little more $, but its the nature of the beast.

Obviously, the 18" barrel will be 8 inches shorter than the 26" barrel and 1.4 lbs lighter. This is welcomed of course. I have read I will lose about 225fps velocity, but what will happen to my accuracy going from a 26" barrel, down to the 18"?

Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy. A 4" barrel is as accurate as a 40" barrel. The bullet just has more time to get propelled by the powder. In the handgun world, a longer barrel gives you a longer sight picture making it more accurate to shoot. They will have the same accuracy out of a ransom rest though.

Mikeltee is right. Matter of fact, some the best groups we have recorded have been with the Covert. The barrel being that much shorter is also that much stiffer.

Depends on the powder you use and the pill your slinging down it, but short answer is probably not.

Finally finished reading this entire thread. I feel both disappointed and free at last. Now I just need to get my rifle. Have a covert on order in 308 and 338 and a dtss 338. Sounds like I need to forget I ordered this stuff until it shows up our I'll make myself insane.

That is why working up a load for your individual rifle is so important. Wilson Combat is the only company that I have seen producing off the shelf ammo for a particular length of barrel (handguns that is). If a load is developed for a 26" barrel, and it is shot out of a 16", you are going to have 10" of powder turn into muzzle blast. If that same 26" load is shot out of a 30" barrel, you are not going to reap the benefits of the extra 4" because the powder has been burnt out at 26".

I don't feel that the price increase was off base at all, most people don't take into account the cost and time in R&D and the retooling. I'm as impatient as the next guy when it comes to getting my new toys, but I'm glad DTA is taking the time to get it right the first time rather then put out a lot of guns with issues. That's how you ruin a companies good name and lose repeat cust. I had to remind myself of this as I too was getting upset with the delays, but I know that it will be well worth the wait. Keep up the good work guys.

Ballistic calculators are fun. It takes a long distance before 225fps really make a difference. If I were you, I'd download one and play with it in order to make sure that shorter barrel isn't going to do the job you need it to. One of the main reasons of buying a DTA is for its excellent balance and mobility, and the shorter the barrel, the better you are going to be off on the run. If you are just setting up on a bench, it really doesn't matter.

I have FFS (Field Firing Solutions) so I can look at the numbers. It has been on my todo list for a few days now. I got a bit sidetracked turning my SRS into a Covert.

I should finally have my dta srs by the end of the month. It is a gen1 but I don't mind a bit. Now to get the scope and mount situation figured out. 35mm mount for the 34mm scope I just got isn't going to work. Does anybody know of a 34mm mount in stock anywhere?

However, I was informed that I might run into feeding problems with the SAUM and the magnum SRS mags. Does anyone have any experience with this cartridge or the WSM cartridge in the SRS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I could always change to a .284 or .280 but I've already got a ton of SAUM brass, dies, and a magnum bolt for the SRS, so I would rather stick with the SAUM. Also, I'm not shy about doing some mod work on a couple of magazines if need be.

I haven't seen anyone mention running the 7saum here. If I were you, I would call Mark at Short Action Customs, and see if he has made any for customers and get his take on it all. He would probably be the most knowledgable on the subject since DTA does not produce this caliber. Good luck on your quest, and I'm sure DTA is flattered you are giving up your Surgeon for their boom stick!

Im kind of in the same boat....I was planning on a 6.5 SAUM and I hate being the test rat just to find out feeding issues make the round unworkable in this platform.

I run 7WSM as one of my conversions. I had to tweak the lips of the magnum mags ever so slightly with my mag tool to get them to feed correctly. I have put about 200 rds through them and only had a couple of feed issues, strange enough it has been only on the first round that I have fed, the rest of them have feed without problems. A couple out of 200 I will call it good because it hasn't been an issue in my comps

Has anyone had the rear corner of their magazine slam(during recoil) into your hand when it's on the rear bag? I'm thinking I need to revise my rear grip a bit.

I cut my original handguard on a mill and then smoothed the edges with a rotory tool. It turned out great. biffj has it right now so either he can post pics or I can do it when I get it back.

I've been hit a couple times but only when I'm not holding on properly. Now that I have the monopod installed I don't have to squish bags anymore so that should help.

I'll check to see if 7, and 6.5 SAUM feed, but I don't see why it would be a problem because the WSM feeds just fine. Also, D Miller and I have reamers in both of these calibers. We would be happy to spin you up a barrel.

I have an SRS A1 coming soon from eurooptic and got their 45 moa scope mount for it. I put it on another gun while I wait and the end of my sun shade hits the rail. So I'm returning that and looking at getting a spuhr. My question is will the 1.89" 44.4 moa one be to tall or should I get the 1.46" 40 moa one? The eurooptic one is 1.4" and the scope is a nightforce ATACR.

Went with the Spuhr 1.5" 30moa for mine. Running the Kahles k6-24x56 and it has a good bit of clearance. Originally I tried the 1.46" and it worked but was a little low for my chipmunk cheeks.

From what I've read 1.89 would be to high with gen 1 or gen 2 SRS. But with the adjustable cheek weld on the A1 would that change things enough or is that still to high?

Sounds like a Spuhr mount with a height of 1.46" and 44.4 moa cant with a 56mm objective is getting close. The 44.4 moa cant is angling the scope downward at the front. So it might be 1.46" at the ocular end but much shorter at the objective end.

Yeah that's the problem I had with the 45 moa 1.4 inch tall one from eurooptic. Which is why I'm trying to decide between the 44.4 moa that's 1.89 inch tall or the 40 moa 1.46 inch tall one. It seems to me that with the adjustable cheek weld on the A1 a 1.89 could be in the middle of the range. Is there anyone who has had their hands on one enough to speak to this?

Upgrades are a good point, but if you can't meet demand at your current prices.....your prices might be too low. Not something we like hearing as customers, but a business should try to balance supply/demand with price....I don't see the issue with trying to make a profit. We decide what it is worth by what people are willing to pay, not by how much it costs to make the rifle.

That being said, I just got my HTI (.50/ .375CT) and it is great so far. .375 recoil is pretty nice compared to the .50. Can't wait to get some more time behind it, assuming I can continue to feed it.

This is an early Gen 1 gun, right? I have seen a few extensions that won't work with bolts and vice versa. I have heard it was a really early problem that was worked out. But yeah, I have an early Gen 1 and have this problem from time to time. DTA warranty has fixed the problem every time.

Yep, my gun is one of the first 120 made. All 4 bolts we tried are from early guns.
