My MIL has a small farm in easter OK. We're suppose to go there next week so she can give my wife some of her grandmother's furniture. To intice me to go, I was told to bring a rifle and thin out the turtles destroying her fishing pond. No biggie, I can handle that, it will be rough, but I can live with it.

Now she tells us the hogs are destroying her pasture and crop land. She tells me to bring a bigger gun to thin them out.

What sort of license to I need to hunt hogs as a non-resident on private property?

Sad part, with 60 plus guns I can't convince my wife I need a special hog gun.

Re: OK Non-resident hog hunting question

Normally, no license is required to shoot hogs.Unfortunately, if you are hunting during deer muzzle loader or rifle season you must have a filled or unfilled deer tag. The ODWC assumes you are deer hunting if you are afield with a rifle during deer season. But muzzle loader ends the 30th and rifle doesn't start until the 19th of November so the weeks between you are good to go.

Re: OK Non-resident hog hunting question

The chances of actually seeing a hog a slim. You may see one everyday for a week and then not see them for 2 months. They move a lot. I am not a regulation expert, but I have several customers that shoot hogs year round, no license is required. I dont see why being a nonresident would keep you from shooting a ferrel hog on private property. Just because it is deer season doesnt mean you have to have a hunting license to target shoot.

You do need a hunting license in Texas. The 2011-2012 book specifically lists hogs as needing a license for hunting.
Here's the Texas law:
It is against the law to:
• Hunt an exotic without a valid hunting license.
• Hunt an exotic on a public road or right-of-way.
• Hunt an exotic without the landowner’s permission.
• Possess an exotic or the carcass of an exotic without the owner’s consent.

Feral hogs are listed as an exotic animal.

Not sure on OK.

Re: OK Non-resident hog hunting question

I might be in NW OK around the same time. My brother and I are headed up to our grandpa's place to hang out for the weekend, check up on him and maybe do some shooting. I'm not sure about hogs but there are plenty of coyotes around his place.

For hogs we do not need a license on private property unless it is deer/elk/antelope/bear season, then we'll need a license for those game animals. Unless you'll be using a 22LR then no license is required.

Coyote laws are a little fuzzy though, I'm going to call a game warden up there and see if I need a hunting and fur license.

Re: OK Non-resident hog hunting question

I have lived here all my life and never knew a "unfilled deer tag" was required by law for you to be allowed in the field during deer season. I coyote hunt alot, right thru black powder and rifle season. I'm not saying your wrong, ignorance of the law is no excuse, but I've never heard such a thing. Quail hunters are afield during deer season also, shotguns are able to fire slugs for deer, and I assure you, they do not have a deer tag on them. I will put in a call to Mullinax in the morning.

Nut, where at in NW Ok? We have made trips up to Beaver hunting a few times.

I'm not exactly sure, Grandpa moved to Oklahoma from Montana a few years ago. The address is in Vici, but he lives somewhere outside of town. He isn't exactly a "people person".

Re: OK Non-resident hog hunting question

Kraig,
I've hunted in Oklahoma as a non-resident for predators the last few years. To cover me for killin' coyotes and hogs, I get a Non-Resident Annual Hunting license. To further cover me for bobcat, I get a Non-Resident Furtakers license.

Hope that helped...
