Need some help on this one. Would like to invest in a Barrett 99 in 416, should I look for an early mdl, or buy a new one? Just beginning my search and don't know a lot about the 99.
Thanks,

Re: Old Barrett/New Barrett

Not much has changed with the M99 in a long time though if you're looking for a .416 for some reason, you're only going to find one built in the last four years or so.

Re: Old Barrett/New Barrett

I was just wondering if Barrett made small changes like Armalite has with the AR 50. The thing that can happen with time is a less expensive way is found to do something which can result in lesser quality. There seems to be a number of used 99s on the market, don't know why.

I wanna say they made corrections to the trigger and updates to the scope base....

check out Barrett's forum.... good info over there.

Re: Old Barrett/New Barrett

Thanks for the tip. Looks like they had a few chamber issues in 2010. Makes me think that I should buy new for the warranty, unless the owner can confirm there were no issues with the weapon.

Poor investment

Re: Old Barrett/New Barrett

Don't you also think someone buys one and finds out the recoil and price per round is a little more than they would like?

Maybe an AR 50 would be a better choice. I like the compactness of the 99 however and the scope mounts lower to the bbl.

Actually, I live in the state of Chicago and know there will be another assult on our rights and thought I would pick up weapon of mass destruction before they're banned.

Re: Old Barrett/New Barrett

I'm pretty sure Armalite just came out with the AR50A1 in 416 if your set on that round. I personally have the AR50A1 in 50 and wouldn't trade even up for the 99. If your concerned with IL and a ban, I'm sure they'll go after the 50s and the 416 will remain unnoticed by the media just like in California.

Re: Old Barrett/New Barrett

Yeah, I've thought about that too. I've been in contact with Armalite about their 416, but they don't have any production dates set yet. If I wasn't a citizen of Chicago, I would probably buy a 50. but King Rahm I is going to rid his kingdom of this evil menace once and for all. I guess he's just tired of all the planes being shot out of the skies.
