I just picked up this old Zeiss/Telefuken night vision scope for 150. As it can't seem to focus. I'm going to be taking it apart and fixing it. It nothing else it should be a cool decoration. Also sorta wondering if Ii would be able to rebuild/reprint the middle part where the image intensifier is and add in a gen 3 tube and get a cheap scope.

However I'm wondering if anyone has more info on it. The seller says it's a cascaded gen 1+ tube. Does anyone have any info on them?

I used the Gen2 orion version of this on a G3A3ZF.

Is this a Gen1 tube? The housing/eyepiece look different than what I remember. If its anything like the Gen2, the Gen1 probably isn't a focus issue but a Gen1 tube fuzzy issue.

Gen 2 wasn't horrible and wasn't great.

The aiming dots tended to be different levels of brightness ranging from barely visable to blooming the shit out of things. They also tended to have a fucking whine like nothing else.

It's still enroute to me, but sounds like a Gen 1 cascade tube. From the pictures, nothing is resolved so I assume that it is a focus issue. That's some good info we will see it is fixable then if it's useable. Otherwise I may try to convert it to gen 3 or just keep it as a cool wall piece.

If you can figure out how to get it to take a Gen3 tube let me know. I've always messed around with the idea of a G3A3ZF build and grabbing one of these just because.
