Firearms ......Old....Remington 700 30-06 barreled action

Serial number is 12,400, yep 12400. if you are into vintage Remington 700's this is a cool one. I've personally never owned one this old. I was going to make a custom rifle out of it but I have too many projects to build now.

The fella who owned this at one time engraved his social security number on the side of the action. I was going to have it removed and refinished.

he place I shop for rifles I see a lot of examples with some old timers SSN electro penciled on the receiver somewhere.

Good times, no one was stealing identity, guys used their rifles as tools. Apparently people were doing enough shooting that they wanted to make sure they had a quick way to identify theirs in the rack and to prevent others from thinking "theirs" was "theirs".

The SSN is just legitimacy of its "Old School" pedigree.

Are those screw holes in the back of the receiver factory or aftermarket? I have an old 700 in 30.06 as well and it has the same holes.

Those are receiver sight screws, they are factory.

These old rifles are neat in that they came equipped for competition.

Note it is also clip slotted for rapid fire part of comps so you could load from a stripper clip.

Best 700 actions Remington made.

Note the cool ass bolt handle much more finely designed than the current square stock handles.

This thing is a gem. Completely unabashed R700 whore, and this beautiful BA is one reason why. My Father and Step Dad both etched their Receivers and Bolts. It's how they rolled in the 50's n 60's. GLWS Brother. I can't lie. I'd never part with that. Just say'n.
